The Polaroid Grand Canyon is a special edition for the anniversary of the Grand Canyon National Park. It was introduced in 2019. The limited edition was created in cooperation with the Grand Canyon National Park, the Parks Project and Retrospect. Retrospekt specialized in the processing of old technology and was responsible for the “construction” of the camera.
In terms of functionality the camera is identical to the Polaroid One Step Flash. The design of the housing of the plastic camera is in light blue and orange. Next to the lens there is a small image of the Grand Canyon.
The Grand Canyon National Park is located mainly in the northwest of Arizona. In 1919 it became the 15th National Park of the USA. It extends over an area of almost 5000 square kilometers. In 1979 the national park became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Over 6 million people visit the park every year.
Films for the camera
The Polaroid Grand Canyon is designed for the 600 format. Suitable films for the instant camera include the Polaroid Color Film for 600* and the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. The unexposed images are stored in a film cassette. The number of pieces for the new films is eight.
Batteries for instant camera
The Polaroid camera is known for its special way of power supply. Each film cassette contains a battery, which is responsible for the power supply of the camera and the flash. This means that every time the film is changed, a new battery is also inserted. Unlike other cameras, the Polaroid camera does not require additional batteries.
However, if the camera has not been used for a long time and the film has remained inside, the battery may discharge. In this case, the camera will stop working. A simple solution is to replace the old film with a new film with a fresh battery.
Alternative models
If you can’t find this model, you can resort to alternatives. Possibilities would include the Polaroid 636 Closeup* and Polaroid Sun 660*. These models come with comparable functional features. The film stock is also identical. You may also want to reach for other instant cameras as an alternative. Here, for example, there are the Instax Mini 90* and Instax Wide 300*. The instant films are also still produced for these models.
