The Polaroid 600 Yosemite is a photo camera. It belongs to the group of instant cameras. The model is based on the Polaroid One Step Flash in terms of functionality.

The edition was introduced to the world public in October 2020. It is a restored original Polaroid camera, which has been given a new design. The technical side was done by the American company Retrospekt. The Special Edition was commissioned by Parks Project.

Parks Project is a group in the USA whose goal is to protect and preserve the national parks of the USA. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of products is invested in this goal.

The occasion for this edition was the 130th birthday of Yosemite National Park. The design of the camera is characterized by the colors brown and yellow. Right next to the flash is the Polaroi logo. Above the film edition, the imprint “Yosemite National Park” can be found in a blue font. In addition, the design is characterized by colorful thick lines.

The Polaroid 600 Yosemite stands out for its user-friendliness. The usual setting options for standard functions are not available on this camera. Due to its ease of use, there is a low barrier to entry and thus versatile options for the field of application. For example, it is a great option for parties and weddings. The camera also cuts a decent figure when traveling.

The basic exposure settings cannot be changed. A free choice of aperture and shutter speed is not available. The lens is fixed and cannot be changed. The camera does not have a zoom function like modern cameras. For close-ups, you therefore have to take a few steps closer to the subject. To achieve razor-sharp results, a minimum distance of 120 cm from the subject should be maintained.

Of course, this camera also comes with a built-in flash. The flash fires automatically when you take a picture. Since the camera needs a lot of light due to the small aperture, the flash comes to the rescue in many cases. Is there an automatic shutter release function? No, there is no self-timer.

Films for the Polaroid 600 Yosemite

Of course, instant film is also required for the Polaroid camera. The original film material of the American photo pioneer Polaroid can no longer be found in stores. In a factory in the Netherlands, films for the 600 format are produced again since the year 2010.

There is a black-and-white and a color film available in specialized stores. The perfect option for color pictures is the Polaroid Color Film for 600*. If you prefer to take monochrome pictures, you can use the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. Both films can give good results in tests.

There are eight images in a film cassette. Care should be taken to ensure that the film material does not come into contact with light outside the camera. For storing unused film material, one should look for a cool and dry place.

Since the development of the film format, an image is 10.8 x 8.8 cm in size. An area of 7.7 by 7.7 cm is provided for the actual image. The rest is filled by a white area. If white frames are too boring, there are also editions with colorful frames.

Do the Instax films fit the Instant camera? No, the Fujifilm films are not compatible.

Batteries

What batteries do I need for the Polaroid 600 Yosemite? With this type of camera, you will find the battery in the cassette along with the unexposed images. It contains enough power for all unexposed images in the film cassette. Even when using the flash. So replacing the film also serves as replacing the power source. The instant camera itself does not require another battery.

The film cassette with the battery must not be disposed of in the household waste. It is best to take the plastic cassette or just the battery to a responsible local drop-off location.

Photoguide for the Polaroid 600 Yosemite

How to use the instant camera? A clear guide on how to use the instant camera.

The first thing to do is to load the film. To do this, push the small slider on the side forward. This opens the film door. Then the film cassette is inserted. Then the flap can be closed again. The protective film that has protected the film material from light until now is now automatically removed by the camera technology.

The camera is now ready to take the desired picture. To do this, aim the camera at the subject and press the shutter release button. The motor in the camera ejects the image. Now the photochemistry begins to develop the image. After a short waiting period, the development process is complete. Then you can look at the final result.

Alternative Cameras

If you can’t find the camera, you can use other options. A first alternative one can reach for is the Polaroid One Step Flash. It offers the same feature set and requires the same films.

Maybe you want cameras from other manufacturers as an alternative. Here there are for example the Instax Mini EVO* and LomoInstant Square*. The suitable films are also still manufactured.
