The Polaroid 600 Kuromi is a camera from Polaroid. It is an instant camera. Its range of functions is identical to that of the Polaroid One Step Flash.

This model was introduced in October 2021. It is a refurbished copy of an instant camera from Polaroid’s production. The company Retrospekt was responsible for the technical details. The design was done in cooperation with Sanrio. Sanrio is the Japanese company behind characters like Hello Kitty.

Kuromi is also a character from the Sanrio universe. Kuromi is a white rabbit with a black jester hat and rival of the character My Melody. The Polaroid edition is printed with illustrations of Kuromi. The choice of colors has been made with purple, pink and black.

The Polaroid 600 Kuromi is characterized by its ease of use. The usual setting options found on other cameras are not available for this model. The ease of use allows for a low barrier of entry and thus many options for areas of application. For example, it is a great option for parties and weddings. The camera also cuts a decent figure when traveling.

The most important settings are already set. The aperture and exposure time cannot be freely selected by the photographer. The camera is equipped with a pre-installed lens. Many modern cameras have a zoom function. This function is not found on this model.

The shortest distance for focusing is 120 cm. This is the minimum distance that must be kept to achieve razor-sharp results. The model does not have a close-up lens.

The Polaroid instant camera comes with a built-in flash. The flash is automatically activated when taking pictures. Due to the small aperture, the use of the flash is mainly useful indoors.

Films for the Polaroid 600 Kuromi

For camera use, of course, the correct films are needed. The production of the original consumable material has ended in the meantime. Don’t worry, since 2010 films for the old 600 cameras are offered again.

There is a film for color pictures, but also a suitable film for monochrome pictures. Colorful instant photos are possible with the Polaroid Color Film for 600*. Monochrome pictures can be created with the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. In tests, both can often do well and get a high rating score.

One pack of film contains eight images. Under no circumstances should the light-sensitive material come into contact with light. The optimal conditions for storage are found in a dry and dark place.

One image has a size of 10.8 x 8.8 cm. The recorded scene can be found on an area of 7.7 by 7.7 cm. The remaining area is filled by a white area. In the offer there are also Polaroid films with colored frames.

Batteries

Do you need batteries for the instant camera? With this type of camera, the power source is found in the cassette along with the unexposed images. It provides the camera with enough power to take photos. So replacing the film also serves as a change of power source. The instant camera itself does not require another battery.

The film cassette with the battery should not be disposed of in household waste. It is better to take the plastic cassette or battery to an appropriate local drop-off location.

Tutorial for the Polaroid 600 Kuromi

How to use the instant camera? An instruction manual on how to use the camera.

First, the instant film is inserted. To open the film door, the slider on the side of the housing is pushed forward. Then the cassette is inserted and the flap is closed again. The camera now ejects the plastic protective film of the film.

Now you can start taking pictures. To do this, press the subject with the camera and press the shutter release button. The motor inside the camera transports the image out of the film cassette. In the process, it passes through two rollers that distribute the chemistry for development over the image. After the development process of the instant photo is completed after a few minutes, the photo can be closely examined.

Similar models

If you can’t find the camera, you can use other options. An alternative that would come in handy would be the Polaroid One Step Flash. It has the same features and requires the same films.

One may also want to reach for other cameras from other manufacturers as an alternative. One can reach for the Diana Instant Square* and Instax Mini EVO*. Fresh film material can still be purchased for the cameras.
