The Polaroid 600 Grillo’s Pickles is a limited-edition instant camera. It was created through a collaboration between Polaroid and the Boston-based pickle brand Grillo’s Pickles and released by Retrospekt for National Pickle Day. It is a strictly limited edition of only 125 cameras.
The camera is based on original vintage Polaroid 600 components restored by Retrospekt. These were fully refurbished and functionally tested before being incorporated into a redesigned outer casing.
The appearance, as the name suggests, is entirely Grillo’s Pickles-themed. It features Sam Sam, the Grillo’s mascot, relaxing on a deck chair, along with other branding elements. This camera is part of a series of collaborations launched by Grillo’s Pickles for National Pickle Day.
Camera Design
The camera body is predominantly dark pine green, with a wide white stripe on the front. The bottom of the camera is black.
The “Polaroid” logo is prominently displayed in white lettering on a green background at the top of the camera, directly above the flash.
On the white front, on the left, is a sticker or graphic depicting a green cucumber relaxing in a red deck chair, seemingly enjoying a drink. “FRESH” is written next to it in green lettering.
Below the lens and viewfinder, “GRILLO’S PICKLES” is printed in green capital letters on the black part of the camera.
The lens is surrounded by a red ring, and the viewfinder is to the right of it, also outlined in red. The flash is rectangular and located at the top right of the camera.
How the Instant Camera Works
The camera has a fixed focal length lens, with no zoom function or manual focus. Exposure is automatically controlled by the integrated light meter, with the light/dark control on the front allowing moderate adjustments.
The reduced setting options simplify operation and allow you to take photos independently after a brief orientation.
The built-in flash provides sufficient brightness for the images and activates automatically. The camera and flash are powered by a battery in the film cassette, which is replaced each time the film is changed. No additional batteries are required for operation.
Films for the Polaroid 600 Grillo’s Pickles
Film is not included with the instant camera and must be purchased separately.
Suitable films for the Polaroid 600 Grillo’s Pickles are still available, including color and black-and-white versions. The color film is known as Polaroid Color Film for 600*. The Polaroid B&W Film for 600* is intended for monochrome shots with the instant camera.
One film cassette has a capacity of eight exposures; after this time, a new cassette is required. Film is not included in the purchase price. Depending on the film, developing the photos takes between 5 and 15 minutes.
