Doors Open Milwaukee is an annual event in the American city of Milwaukee. Over the course of two days, there are events, tours, and admission to various locations around the city.

On the occasion of this event a special edition Polaroid camera was created. The company Retrospekt, which is also based in the city in the state of Wisconsin, is responsible for it.

It is an original Polaroid camera, which has been slightly adapted in design. The plastic housing is black. Next to the lens you can find the imprint and logo “Historic Milwaukee, Inc Doors Open”.

The Polaroid 600 Doors Open impresses with its ease of use. Most of the setting options common to other types of cameras have been omitted. Thanks to its straightforwardness, it can be used on many occasions. For example, a good event for using the camera is a wedding or other celebrations. However, it is also a lot of fun to use on vacation.

The basic photo settings cannot be changed. The aperture value cannot be adjusted. There is also no adjustment dial for the speed of the shutter. It is not possible to change the lens. It has a fixed focal length. There is no zoom function. Therefore, for close-ups, you have to take a few steps closer to the subject. A minimum distance of 120 cm is necessary for sharp pictures.

You don’t have to do without a built-in flash on the photo camera. The flash fires automatically. It is also necessary, especially for indoor shots, because the camera needs a lot of light for good pictures.

A so-called self-timer has not been integrated.

Films for the Polaroid 600 Doors Open

Indispensable for taking pictures with the Polaroid instant camera are the associated instant films. The production of the original consumable has since ended. Since 2010, a Dutch company has been producing suitable film material again.

Both a color film and a black-and-white film are available for the camera. The Polaroid Color Film for 600* is the material for color photos. Those who prefer monochrome images can choose the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. Both films cut a good figure in use.

You can find eight pictures in one pack. Under no circumstances should the photosensitive material come into contact with light. The ideal storage conditions are found in a clean and dark place.

An instant film has a size of 10.8 x 8.8 cm. An area of 7.7 by 7.7 cm is provided for the actual image. The rest of the Polaroid image is filled by a white area. To can also be found editions of Polaroid films with colored frames.

Not compatible with the Polaroid 600 Doors Open are the instant films from Fujifilm.

Batteries

What kind of batteries do you need for the Polaroid camera? The camera is powered by a battery inside the film cassette. The disposable battery holds the necessary power to power the camera technology with flash. So replacing the film is also replacing the battery. Another battery is not needed for the camera.

If the camera with film inside has not been used for a long period of time, this can lead to self-discharge of the battery. As a result, the camera will stop working. The solution to the problem is to replace the old film with new film stock with a fresh battery.

Tutorial for the Polaroid 600 Doors Open

How to take pictures with the instant camera? A quick tutorial on how to operate the camera.

First, insert the instant film. To do this, slide the slider forward on the side to open the film door. The film cassette is inserted and the flap is closed again. The next step is done automatically by the camera. It removes the protective film from the film.

Now you can take a picture. To do this, aim the camera at the subject and press the shutter release button. The motor inside the camera transports the image out of the film cassette. In the process, it passes through two rollers, which distribute the chemistry for development over the image. After a short wait, the development process is complete.
