The Polaroid 600 96 Cam is a camera for the 600 instant format. The same features can be found on the Polaroid One Step (rounded corners).

This edition was introduced in 2018. It is a restored, original Polaroid camera with a new design. The company Retrospekt from the USA was responsible for this. Two variants with different color combinations were presented.

There is one in the colors yellow, turquoise and pink and an edition with the color combination red, light blue and yellow. Both of them feature design with geometric figures in the area around the lens.

The Polaroid 600 96 Cam stands out for its ease of use. Many of the setting options found on other types of cameras are not present. The ease of use allows it to be used for many occasions. For example, it is suitable for parties and also looks great at weddings. The camera also cuts an excellent figure when traveling.

Changing the exposure settings is not possible. For example, the aperture and shutter speed cannot be changed by the user. The lens is fixed and cannot be changed. You have to do without a zoom, which is common for smartphones, in this model. Instead of pressing the zoom button, you have to get closer to the subject to take pictures. A minimum distance of 60 cm to the subject should be ensured for razor-sharp photos.

Of course, this camera also comes with a built-in flash. When the shutter button is pressed, it automatically comes into play. This is especially useful for indoor photography, as the camera needs a lot of light for clear pictures.

Films for the Polaroid 600 96 Cam

Of course, instant film is also needed for the camera. The manufacturer of the camera, the company Polaroid from the USA, has given up the production of film material. Since 2010, a Dutch company again produces suitable film material.

There is material for color photos and black and white images. For color photos, the Polaroid Color Film for 600* is the suitable choice. The appropriate choice for monochrome images is the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. How do the films perform in tests? Both instant films can convince in different situations.

There are a whole eight photos in a box. The film material is light-sensitive and should therefore never come into contact with light before taking the picture. The unexposed film material should be stored in a cool and dry place.

According to the standard, an image measures 10.8 x 8.8 cm. An area of 7.7 by 7.7 cm is reserved for the actual image. The remaining area of the Polaroid picture is white. However, there are also editions with colorful frames.

Important. The instant films from the house of Fujifilm do not fit with the instant camera.

Batteries

What type of battery is needed for the Polaroid 600 96 Cam? With this type of camera, the power source is found inside the plastic case. The disposable battery contains the necessary power for the camera technology with flash. So changing the film also represents changing the battery. The instant camera itself does not require another battery.

If the camera with film has been stored for a long time, the battery may have discharged. As a result, the camera will no longer work. In this case, you simply need to remove the film and replace it with fresh film stock.

How to take photos with the instant camera? A small instruction manual on how to use the instant camera.

The first step is to insert the film. To do this, first press the slider on the side forward that the film door opens. Now the cassette with the film material can be inserted. Then the flap can be closed again. The light-proof film over the film cassette is now automatically removed by the camera.

Now you can take pictures. By pressing the shutter release button on the side, the picture is taken. The drive inside the camera transports the image from the film cassette through two rollers to the outside. In the process, the photographic chemistry necessary for development is dispersed. After the development process of the instant photo is completed after a few minutes, the photo can be inspected closely.

Similar models

If you can’t find the camera, it’s advisable to turn to other options. Good alternatives are the Polaroid One600* and Polaroid OneStep Flash*. These are models with a comparable feature set. They also use the same film format.

If it can be a different film format, there is a wider selection of different instant cameras. Two instant cameras are the Instax Mini EVO* and LomoInstant*. The appropriate films are also still being manufactured.
