Peak Design Tech Pouch & Wandrd Tech Pouch Review

Not only do photographers have a wide range of products to choose from when it comes to tripods, there is also an endless choice of options when it comes to bags. Today we will take a look at two that fall into the same category.

Both Peak Design and Wandrd offer a Tech Pouch. It is designed to store all small items. The pouch can then be stowed even in a larger backpack or suitcase. Of course, it doesn’t have to be exclusively photo accessories, although the transition is fluid anyway.

Peak Design Tech Pouch

First the basic facts. The Peak Design Tech Pouch is available in five different colours and the outer shell is made of water-repellent nylon canvas. The outer dimensions are 24 x 15 x 10 cm. The volume is 2 litres with an empty weight of 255 grams.

The bag opens like an accordion, so you have an immediate overview of the contents. There are two large compartments on the right and left and another narrower compartment in the middle. In addition, there are countless pockets. There is a holder for two pens and an inner compartment that can be closed with a zip.

On the front is an outer compartment for quick access, e.g. for a mobile phone. This is cleverly connected to the inside by a small opening to connect the smartphone via cable to a powerbank for charging. There are also two eyelets on the outside to turn the bag into a shoulder bag. I don’t quite understand the use of the four straps on the outside.

Wandrd Tech Pouch

Here too, first the facts. There is only one black colour version, but different sizes: small (1 litre), medium (2 litres) and large (3.5 litres). For testing, I have the medium version here. It measures 17.6 x 11.4 x 5.1 cm and weighs 125 grams. The outer material is also water-repellent.

The Wandrd bag also has a large main compartment with several inner compartments. There is also a rubber fastener for pens. There is also an outer pocket for the smartphone, with an extra soft fabric lining.

The bag was specially designed for the Wandrd backpacks and can be attached directly to them with the appropriate clips. The different sized pouches can also be connected to each other. Like the Peak Design bag, it can also be worn as a shoulder bag with an additional strap via the corresponding eyelets. There is a strap on the bottom to make carrying the bag easier.

My opinion

Both bags are well made and make a durable impression. For me and my applications, the Peak Design bag makes more sense or was able to convince me more. One reason for this is that it is easier to see through the many compartments, the light fabric and the stiff exterior.

In addition, you can use the bag not only as a bag in a bag, but also in everyday life. This is also possible with the Wandrd, but the additional padding and the size make the difference for me. The size of the Peak Design is ideal for a compact camera like the Lomo LC-A or Yashica T4, films and batteries. There is also room for keys, wallet, notebook, pens, powerbank, cable, headphones and smartphone. And of course a mask at the moment. For a reflex camera or a somewhat larger camera, however, the space is rather limited or there is no room. Likewise, it is not suitable as a sole bag for daily use if you want to take your laptop or tablet with you.

Of course, the Wandrd Tech Pouch makes particular sense if you combine it with other Wandrd products. While the size is not bad and makes much more sense for a daypack, I personally was not convinced by the organisation system. For example, a slightly longer USB cable sits much better in one of the compartments on the side of the Peak Designs model, but with the Wandrd the compartments are simply too lax, so that everything quickly just seems stuffed in.
