MACO Macophot PO 100c is a medium-sensitive black-and-white film valued in photography for its unique properties and quality. As an orthopanchromatic film, MACO PO 100c has a higher sensitivity to the color red compared to pure orthochromatic films. This gives it excellent flexibility and applicability for a wide range of applications, including architectural, landscape and portrait photography.
The sensitivity of the film varies depending on the type of developer used and the lighting conditions. In daylight (5400 K), the film has a sensitivity of ISO 100/21°, which can reach ISO 200/24° in certain developers with increased sensitivity utilization, such as ILFORD MICROPHEN. In lighting conditions such as incandescent light or low sun (evening glow), the sensitivity is lower and it is recommended to consider an effective sensitivity reduced by one stop.
Development of the film
Po 100c is developed in a black and white developer. Development of this type of film can be done either at home or at most photo labs. It is important to choose the developer carefully, as this can significantly affect the results.
To improve speed utilization and uniformity of development, it is recommended to pre-water films in tap water for 30 seconds before development. The film has a crystal clear base and a water-soluble antihalation layer, the removal of which improves development. The development process should be performed in complete darkness or under indirect, dark red laboratory light.
For those who do not develop the MACO PO 100c film themselves, it is possible to take the exposed film to any normal photo processing facility. However, in the case of overexposure or underexposure, specialized laboratories are recommended that have the special skills to achieve optimal results by adjusting the development time.
For drying, cold drying is recommended to preserve the quality of the film. For roll films, the use of special wetting agents optimized for polyester films, such as LP-MASTERPROOF, is strongly recommended. The film’s crystal-clear base also offers the possibility of using it as black-and-white slide film and ensures the highest standard of archival security for roll films.

Calculation of the development solution
How much development solution do you need?
For the development times, pre-watering is applied and a tipping rhythm of 1x every 30 seconds is used. For Ultrafin, the developing can should be tipped every 3 seconds.
Availability and alternatives
MACO PO 100c was available in two formats: 35 mm (perforated on both sides) 135-36 and roll film 120. 35 mm film is made of a cellulose triacetate base with a thickness of 130 µm, while roll film 120 is made of polyester with a thickness of 100 µm. The film offers a resolving power of 260 lp/mm with a contrast ratio of 1:1 000, resulting in excellent sharpness and detail.
Maco does not have a direct successor in its program.
