Maco

Maco is a brand name of HANS O. MAHN & CO. KG, located in Stapelfeld near Hamburg, Germany. Various products were marketed under this name, including films. HANS O. MAHN & CO. KG is also the operator of the large online shop Macodirect.de, where not only their own brands are sold.

Under the label Maco, various photographic films for different formats were offered. They collaborated with different manufacturers and suppliers. One important partner, for example, was the company Efke from Croatia, and there was also collaboration with Agfa from the Netherlands. The northern German company did not operate its own factories or production facilities.

The majority of the films offered were intended for black and white photography. Typically, these were somewhat specialized materials for niche purposes. They were not everyday films but rather aimed at producing impressive artistic images. However, color films were also offered.

In addition, the German company also offered black and white chemicals for development under their own brand. Some of these chemicals were specifically tailored to their own films to achieve the best possible results.

Furthermore, there was a wide range of different photo papers under the Maco label, allowing for high-quality presentation of captured photos. Maco offered PE and baryta paper in various sizes.

Today, films are no longer sold under the Maco label. However, HANS O. MAHN & CO. KG remains an important player and has been offering their photographic films under the well-known German brand Rollei for some time now. They also market photopaper and development chemicals under this brand name.
