Inside the Lobster is an inverted ISO 200 color negative film. It can be used to take pictures with strong red to orange tones.

There is a cassette for 24 shots in one package. According to the information on the box, it is manufactured in China, probably the material is identical to the Color Tiger film from Lomography.

What is a Redscale film?

Redscale film is a color negative film in which the color layers in the film are reversed so that the red hues are exposed first. This produces images with a characteristic warm redness and yellow to orange tones. The name “Redscale” is derived from this inversion and translates as “red scale”. Redscale films are often used in experimental photography to achieve artistic effects and unusual hues.

Development of the Lomography Lobster Redscale 110

The pocket film is developed using the C-41 process. This process is standardized and used for all color negative film. The development method is offered by most professional photo labs. Unfortunately, not all labs also develop pocket films. So here you have to inquire a little bit before. Mostly the development of this film format is also a bit expensive.

Some problems can occur with photo prints from redscale films. One of the biggest problems is that most photo labs do image correction to get the “correct” colors before making prints. However, since redscale photos do not have “correct” colors, but instead have an artificial color tone due to the reverse development process, image correction can lead to very disappointing results. For example, the prints may look dull, pale or unnatural and not reflect the desired color mood of the redscale film. It is therefore advisable to digitize the images yourself and then print them out, or to advise the photo lab of the special requirements of redscale films.
