The Leica Sofort 2 Burton Edition is a special edition of the Leica Sofort 2 instant camera, developed in collaboration with Burton Snowboards. It was introduced in February 2025 as part of the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Leica I (“100 Years of Leica: Witness to a Century”) and is a tribute to Jake Burton Carpenter, the founder of Burton Snowboards, who was himself an enthusiastic Leica photographer.
Design and features
The Burton Edition is technically based on the Leica Sofort 2 and shares its functions. It uses the Instax Mini film format and enables both direct printing of photos and digital storage on a microSD card.
Equipped with the Leica Summar 1:2/2.4 lens (equivalent to 28mm 35mm), a 1/5 inch CMOS sensor (4.9 MP) and various recording modes (including selfie, landscape, macro), it offers a wide range of creative possibilities.
Ten film and ten lens effects allow for individual image design. Bluetooth connectivity enables connection to the Leica FOTOS app for remote control and image transfer.
The design of the Burton Edition is distinguished by the exclusive “Jake Blue” look with a stylish pattern and a shiny Burton logo on the camera cover. The camera is delivered in a set with a practical Burton camera bag.
Films
The instant films for the camera are still being manufactured. They are produced by the Japanese company Fujifilm. For color photos there is the Instax Mini Film*. If you prefer to take black and white photos, you can use the Instax Mini Monochrome*. There are always ten images in a film cassette.
Background of the collaboration
The collaboration between Leica and Burton Snowboards is based on a shared passion for innovation and quality. Jake Burton Carpenter, a pioneer of snowboarding, documented the beginnings and development of the sport with his Leica camera. The Leica Sofort 2 Burton Edition honors his life’s work and his connection to photography.
Availability and price
The Leica Sofort 2 Burton Edition was available worldwide from 2025 in Leica stores, the Leica online store and specialist retailers. The recommended retail price was 595.00 euros.
