Kodak Law Enforcement LE800

The Kodak Law Enforcement LE800 color negative film for 35mm cameras is designed specifically for law enforcement use. This film is ideal for crime scene photography, forensic lab photography, and macro applications. Both forensics, police, and investigative agencies have been able to obtain this film.

With the advancement of digital photography, which offered many advantages for this target group, the use of analog cameras in law enforcement decreased. Therefore, production of this film series was discontinued in 2003.

Developing the film

After exposure, developing the film stock is essential, especially with this type of film, which requires the C-41 process. Most photo labs offer this standardized development process. Unlike black-and-white film, the development process for color film is standardized, making it easier to use. Once the development is complete, the film strips with the captured photos will be ready.

Availability and Alternatives

The Kodak Law Enforcement LE800 was available in 35mm format only and was offered in packs of 20 rolls each. It was only available in 12 and 24 frame lengths. This was necessary because police or forensics needed to access footage quickly and could not wait for 36 frame film or waste film stock.

The film cartridges have a 3/4-inch square note area, which provides more space for notes on subject, exposure and processing conditions. Also, the film cartridges are translucent (“frosted”), which makes them easier to see. The 20-roll Pro Pack also includes a plastic bag for easy transport.

Color film is no longer produced new. A replacement for 35mm format is the Kodak Portra 800*.
