The Kodak Law Enforcement LE100 film is a 35mm color negative film designed for use in law enforcement applications such as crime scene photography, forensic lab photography, and macro applications. With the increase in digitization, or the shift to digital photography, fewer and fewer investigative agencies were using analog photography. As a result, Kodak discontinued the product in 2003.

The film was specifically designed to provide excellent sharpness and detail with very fine grain, allowing for a high degree of magnification. One of the main advantages of Kodak Law Enforcement LE100 film is its wide exposure latitude. This allows the film to maintain rich, accurate colors even when underexposed or overexposed.

The Kodak Law Enforcement LE100 film is also known for its consistent scanning performance. This saves time and reduces the need for scanner adjustments, making it a popular choice for law enforcement agencies that require fast and accurate image processing.

The film’s extremely fine grain and excellent sharpness make it an ideal choice for use in relatively bright daylight or flash conditions. The film also lends itself well to high-quality enlargements, making it an excellent choice for forensic applications where fine detail can be critical.

Developing the film

Developing the film stock is necessary after exposure. The C-41 process is used for this type of film. The C-41 development process is standardized and offered by most photo labs. Unlike black and white films, the development process for color films is standardized. The film strips with the captured photos will be available after development.

Availability and Alternatives

The Law Enforcement LE100 was only available in 35mm format. It was sold in packs of twenty rolls. It was only available in 12 and 24 frame lengths. Since the police or forensics needed the shots quickly, they couldn’t wait until the 36 frame film was full, or they didn’t want to waste film stock.

On the film cartridge is a 3/4 inch square note area, which provides more space for notes about the subject or exposure and processing conditions. The film canisters are translucent (“frosted”) so they are easier to see, and the 20-roll Pro Packs include a plastic bag for easy transport.

The film is no longer produced new. An alternative for 35mm film is Kodak Gold 200*.
