The Kodak Ektar H35N HUF Edition represents a special edition of the half-frame camera manufactured by Kodak. It was introduced in December 2024. In terms of its functional spectrum, it shows similarities to other cameras in the H35 series.
The creation of this model took place in cooperation with the skateboard label HUF. The camera, limited to a small production run, was offered at a price of $75 USD.
The camera body is made of plastic. The upper and side areas are finished in a light silver-grey or white tone. A particularly striking feature of the front is the lower section, which is designed in a bright lime green and bears the lettering “huf” in white.
Camera Features
The lens is permanently integrated into the 35mm camera and cannot be exchanged. The focal length is fixed at 22 mm. The maximum aperture is f/8.
With this camera model, manual distance adjustment is not possible; the focus is fixed. To achieve sharp images, a distance of 100 cm from the subject is recommended.
The half-frame camera is equipped with an improved, coated lens, intended to produce sharper images, as well as an integrated star filter that gives light sources a soft effect.
It should be noted that this 35mm camera does not have a built-in light meter. There are generally no exposure adjustment options. The aperture is fixed, as is the shutter speed, which is set to 1/100 second.
A Bulb function is available for the Kodak Ektar H35N HUF Edition, which requires a cable release. In this mode, the shutter remains open as long as the shutter button is pressed, which can be used for long exposures at night, for example.
The integrated flash provides sufficient illumination. Furthermore, a tripod socket is available.
The camera weighs 110 grams and measures 11 x 6.2 x 3.9 cm.
The camera is powered by a AAA battery (eBay / Amazon*). This power source is exclusively needed for the operation of the flash. If the flash is not used, the battery can be omitted.
Films for the Kodak Ektar H35N HUF Edition
The Kodak Ektar H35N HUF Edition uses 35mm film. 35mm films are still readily available and can be developed in most photo labs without complications.
Easily accessible photo films for the Kodak Ektar H35N HUF Edition are the Kodak Gold 200* for color photography and the Ilford Delta 400* for black and white shots. Of course, films from other manufacturers can also be used.
The camera’s negatives measure 24 mm x 18 mm, which corresponds to the so-called half-frame format. This shooting format allows for twice the number of images on a film, for example, 72 images instead of 36.
The camera does not have an automatic film advance function; the photographer must manually advance the film to the next frame. A thumbwheel is provided on the back for this purpose.
