The Kodak Ektar H35 is a half-format camera for the 35mm format. It was introduced in the middle of 2022. It is manufactured in China by the company Sino Promise Group Limited. Sino Promise has licensed the “Kodak” brand name and offers 35 mm cameras under it, among others. It is distributed in some markets by RETO Production Ltd. (“RETO”) from Hong Kong.
The camera is offered in four color versions. There are Sand, Sage, Brown and Black versions.
The 35mm camera comes with a fixed lens. The aperture of the lens is limited to a maximum of f/9.5 at a focal length of 22mm. The 35mm camera does not have an autofocus. The distance is fixed. The closest focusing distance is specified with 100 cm for this lens.
The Kodak Ektar H35 does not have a meter for the correct exposure. The values for the exposure are fixed. Thus, the aperture is f/9.5 and the shutter speed is 1/100 second. This model does not have a bulb mode.
The built-in flash provides enough light. There is no regulation of the intensity. The flash can be turned on and off.
With a size of 11 x 6.2 x 3.9 cm, the Kodak Ektar H35 weighs 100 grams according to the manual. The camera requires one AAA battery (eBay / Amazon*) to use the flash. This type of battery can be found very easily. There are no batteries included in the package.
Films for the Kodak Ektar H35
Also not included are the appropriate films. The camera is intended for use with 35mm film. Despite the fact that there are now many digital cameras, the 35mm format remains an important part of photography and some manufacturers still produce film for this format.
What film is recommended for use with the Kodak Ektar H35? The use of Kodak Ultramax 400* is recommended for color images with this camera, while the use of Kodak TRI-X 400* is recommended for B&W images. Test reports attest to their good performance when used in normal applications.
There are many other suitable films that can be used with this camera that are also from other manufacturers. For example, Lomography, Foma, Rollei, and Fujifilm offer suitable 35mm film for the Kodak camera.
It is common practice to process color film using the C-41 development process. This development process is performed by all photo labs that offer 35mm film development. Black and white film must be processed in a proper black and white developer.
The negatives of the photo camera have a size of 24 mm x 18 mm. After taking about 72 pictures, the film must be replaced. This is twice the amount that can otherwise be taken with a normal 35 mm camera.
