The Kodak Ektachrome 160T Professional (EPT) is a legendary slide film that was characterized by its exceptional color reproduction, sharpness and fine grain. With a film speed of ISO 160, it was specifically designed for shooting under artificial light with a color temperature of 3200K.
The “T” in the name stands for “Tungsten” and refers to the tungsten bulbs that were commonly used in film studios and other professional environments.
The Ektachrome 160T Professional was a popular tool for professional photographers in fashion, advertising, portrait and product photography. Its ability to capture vivid and accurate colors made it a preferred choice for shots where precise color reproduction was critical. The film’s fine grain also enabled detailed enlargements and high-quality prints.
Although the Ektachrome 160T Professional was originally designed for artificial light, photographers also used it successfully in other lighting conditions. With appropriate filters, it could be adapted to daylight or other light sources while retaining its characteristic properties.
Formats
Unfortunately, production of the Ektachrome 160T Professional was discontinued in 2007, which caused regret among many photographers. The film was available in 35mm (135) and medium format (120) formats and had the film code “EPT”.
Due to its professional orientation, the Kodak Ektachrome 160T Professional was often used in high-quality SLR cameras and medium format cameras. Popular models included the Nikon F series, Canon EOS-1 series, Hasselblad 500 series and Mamiya RZ67. These cameras offered the precision, reliability and flexibility needed to exploit the full potential of the Ektachrome 160T Professional.
Even some more compact cameras such as the Contax G2 or the Leica M6 were able to produce excellent results with the Ektachrome 160T Professional, especially in the hands of experienced photographers. The choice of camera ultimately depended on the photographer’s individual preferences and requirements, with the quality of the lens playing just as important a role as the camera itself.
After its discontinuation, the Ektachrome 160T Professional became a sought-after collector’s item and is now rarely found on the second-hand market.
