The Kodak Ektachrome E200 is a slide film. It has a sensitivity of ISO 200 and is aimed at professional photographers.

Kodak cites complex lighting conditions such as those encountered in wildlife, fashion, and sports photography or indoors as possible applications.

The Kodak Ektachrome E200 is said to be characterized by its outstanding push properties (up to EL 800) with low contrast change, at least according to Kodak’s advertising.

In addition, the slides with the reversal film are supposed to be fine-grained and sharp, partly due to Kodak’s T-Grain technology. No correction is necessary for exposure times of 1/10000 seconds to 10 seconds with the Kodak Professional Ektachrome E200.

The Kodak Ektachrome E200 is developed in the E6 process for slide films; for cross processing, it has to go into the C-41 process.

The decreasing demand caused Kodak to discontinue the Ektachrome E200 in 2011.

If you get your hands on a roll of 35mm or medium format film (120, 220) today, depending on how old it is, you’ll want to expose it a bit stronger to still achieve reasonable results with slide film. Like most expired film, sensitivity decreases over the years, so it is necessary to compensate for this when shooting.

In addition to the Kodak Ektachrome E200, there was the Ektachrome E100G, E100GX, and the E100VS; today Kodak no longer makes slide film for photographers.

Use of the film after expiration date

Most films available on the market have already passed their expiration date. However, the printed expiration date is only a guarantee by the manufacturer of the quality of the film up to that point and says little about its actual quality thereafter. One of the challenges of using old film stock is the loss of light sensitivity that can be caused by the age and storage conditions of the film. To get around this problem, photographers can expose the film more during shooting to ensure that enough light hits the film.
