The Kodak Professional Ektachrome Panther 100 is a slide film. It belongs to the Kodak Ektachrome Panther film family. This series of films was offered by the American company in the 1990s. Today you can no longer buy the films.

You can create color slides with the Kodak Ektachrome Panther 100. The sensitivity is given as ISO 100. This makes it well suited for taking photos in daylight. In terms of image impression, it tends towards neutral colors with a yellowish tendency in the highlights and a bluish tendency in the shadows.

Use of expired photo films

Using expired photo film, such as Ektachrome Panther 100, requires special attention. Over time, color stability may decrease, resulting in color shifts. It is advisable to adjust the exposure as expired films often have reduced sensitivity. However, for experimental photography this can create interesting visual effects.

Use cases

This film is particularly suitable for landscape and portrait photography in natural lighting conditions. Its low sensitivity makes it less suitable for shooting in low light or fast action shots. It is often preferred by professional photographers due to its high color fidelity and sharpness.

Development process

The Ektachrome Panther 100 is developed through the E-6 process, a standardized process for color slides. This multi-step chemical process includes developing, bleaching, fixing and stabilizing. It is important to adhere to the exact time and temperature specifications to achieve optimal results.

Further use of the color slides

After development, the color slides can be mounted in slide frames and displayed in slide projectors. They are also ideal for high-quality scans to create digital copies for print or digital media. The high resolution and color quality of the Professional Ektachrome Panther 100 enables impressive reproductions.

Availability and alternatives

The color film was offered in both 35mm and medium format. With an image format of 24 x 36 mm, one cartridge made it possible to take 36 photos. These cartridges came with a DX code that modern cameras can use to automatically adjust film speed.

Various manufacturers such as Pentax, Zenit and Zorki offer suitable camera models for the 35mm format. Medium format cameras from companies such as Minolta, Yashica or Pentax are suitable for using medium format films. Most cameras can take 12 or 16 pictures on one roll.

Production of the color film was discontinued and there is no direct successor. One of the possible alternatives in 35mm format is the Fujifilm Provia 100F*. An alternative in medium format is the Fujifilm Velvia 100*.
