The Impossible Color Film for Image/Spectra is an instant film. It is the latest color film generation for this film format (as of April 2017). In addition to the color film, there is also an instant film for black and white images.

The Impossible Color Film for Image/Spectra is designed for the old Polaroid Image/Spectra cameras and cannot be used in the 600 or SX-70 cameras. Polaroid no longer makes film for this instant format.

An instant picture with the Impossible Color Film for Image/Spectra has a size of 10.2 by 10.3 cm. The actual color image is 9 by 7.3 cm, with the white frame taking up the rest.

Two minutes after the image is ejected, development begins. The development time in the whole is between 20 and 30 minutes. Optimal results are obtained at an ambient temperature of 14-28 degrees. Cold and heat can affect the results.

The instant images are in a special film cassette. The black cassette is placed in the camera. When the frame counter indicates two, the film must be changed.
Next to the images, there is a battery in the cassette. It supplies power to the camera and flash.

One pack of the film contains eight pictures. Unexposed instant film should be stored in a cool, dry place.

Image is the worldwide name for this film format. Under the name Spectra, the cameras were distributed in North America.

Alternative for the film

The newest instant film for the instant format is the Polaroid Originals Color Film for Image & Spectra*. Unfortunately, this film has also been discontinued, so there are no more films for the Image / Spectra format.

As an alternative, you can reach for the Instax Wide format from Fujifilm. While you can’t use the films in the old cameras, the aspect ratio and image size is very similar to Polaroid’s format. Cameras and films are still produced new by Fujifilm. There are also cameras from Lomography for this film format.
