Ilford Ortho Plus is a black and white film. It is manufactured by Harman Technology in the UK.
Ilford Ortho Plus is designed for black and white photography. The sensitization of the film emulsion is orthochromatic. With this sensitization, the film is insensitive to light in the red spectral range. Thus, red areas in photographs are significantly darker than normal.
Black-and-white film was originally developed as a high-resolution copying film, but it can also be used for other purposes. For example, it is suitable for portrait and landscape photography.
The film’s sensitivity is specified as ISO 80. In artificial light, however, it should also be exposed to ISO 40. Especially indoors, a fast lens or an additional light source should be used to avoid underexposure with the Ilford Ortho Plus.
Development of the film
Ortho Plus is a classic black and white film and therefore must be developed in a true black and white developer. The development can be done by a photo lab or you can develop it yourself using the appropriate photo chemistry. The finished negatives can then be scanned and printed, for example.
The blue and green sensitivity allows the film to be handled in deep red safety light. Development time and developer can be used to specifically determine the contrasts of the final result.

Formats
The Ilford Ortho Plus is made up for the 35mm format. However, it was also available as roll film and for large format cameras. For large format, there is a choice of 13x18cm, 4×5″, 5×7″ and 8×10″.
The 35mm and medium format film come with an acetate-based carrier. They have a thickness of 0.125mm. The emulsion for the sheet films is cast on a carrier of 0.18mm thick polyester. When stored correctly, both carriers have excellent archival properties, according to Ilford.
The 35mm film comes in regular 36-frame cartridges. The DX encoding outputs an ISO of ISO 80. Additionally, the 35mm film is available by the meter.
