Film World 50/5203

The film World 50/5203 is a color negative film that was sold under the brand name Film World, but is no longer available. It was probably a supplier from China.

The material is manufactured by Kodak. It is based on the Kodak VISION3 50D, a film that was originally developed for the production of cinema films.

Kodak normally only offers this film in large quantities for film cameras. In order to make it usable for 35mm cameras, the material is rewound from large rolls onto 35mm cartridges.

It can be used in most 35mm cameras. The sensitivity is specified as ISO 50. It is designed for shooting in daylight. With the low sensitivity, you should use a fast lens or only take pictures in bright sunlight.

Developing the film

The Kodak VISION3 50D is designed for development in the ECN-2 process. Anyone who uses the World 50/5203 film must therefore find a laboratory that offers this process.

The ECN-2 process differs from the usual C-41 process used in conventional color negative films. This is due, among other things, to a special protective layer on the ECN-2 material that is intended for use in motion picture cameras.

If the film is nevertheless developed using the C-41 process, the protective layer can contaminate the chemicals and render them unusable.

For photographers who cannot find a laboratory for the ECN-2 process, an adapted version of the VISION3 50D, which has been specially modified for the C-41 process, is recommended.
