Canon EOS 700

The Canon EOS 700 is a 35mm camera. It was introduced in March 1990. In Japan the model was available as EOS QD with data back. The original price for the housing was 58.000 Yen.

The lenses of the Canon EOS 700 can be exchanged. Therefore an EF bayonet was built into the camera. The Canon Power Zoom EF 35-80mm f/4-5.6 is often found on the 35mm photo camera. To focus the lens an autofocus system was built into the Canon EOS 700.

The 35mm camera has a built-in light meter. The light meter was built for films with a sensitivity of ISO 25 to ISO 3200. The camera reads the ISO value via the DX code on the cartridge. The SLR determines the exposure by measuring through the lens (TTL). The Canon EOS 700 can set the aperture and exposure time automatically. There are different programs for this purpose.

A unique function is the reversible program wheel. One side with modes for (DEP) depth of field, (mountain) landscape, (face) portrait, (flower) macro, (glass) indoor, (3 people) depth of field, (runner) stop action, (runner movement), (sunflash/dark background) slow sync/fill flash and (dot and triangle) focus preset. The other side of the dial has shutter priority modes with the shutter speeds bulb and 1/4 s to 1/2000 s. Both sides have battery control, self-timer, (L) lock and (P) program.

A bulb mode is available for long exposures. In this mode, the shutter is released as long as the shutter-release button is pressed. The camera has a built-in flash. The range of the flash is 12 meters. An external flash can be fired via the built-in hot shoe. The Canon EOS 700 has a thread for a tripod and a self-timer.

The dimensions of the Canon EOS 700 are 14.9 x 10.2 x 7.1 cm. According to the manual it weighs 615 grams. The power source of the 35mm camera is a 6V 2CR5 battery (eBay / Amazon*), which is sufficient for 65 rolls with 24 pictures each. When using the flash, this number drops to 13.

Films for the Canon EOS 700

What film format is the Canon EOS 700 designed for? The camera needs films for the 35mm format. The 35mm format is the most common film format. Therefore some manufacturers still produce for this format. A good choice of film is Kodak Portra 160* for color pictures and Kodak TRI-X 400* for black and white pictures.

The color film is designed for development in the C-41 process. This is offered by almost every photo lab. For example, you can give your films to most drugstores for development.

The negatives of the Canon EOS 700 have a size of 24 mm x 36 mm. With this exposure range, a film (135-36) can usually hold at least 36 photos. The film is transported automatically.

The Canon 700 QD automatically exposes the date of recording in the films. It can use various date formats until 2019 and is powered by a CR2025 battery (eBay / Amazon*).
