The Canon EOS 1N is a 35mm camera. It is the successor of the Canon EOS 1 and the professional camera has not been changed much. The most important innovations in this model from the 90s are the five cross sensors of the autofocus sensor (in the EOS 1 only one). Later the Canon EOS 1V followed.
The new price for a copy of the EOS 1N in Japan was 215,000 Yen.
The lens of the Canon EOS 1N can be changed. It comes with an EF bayonet and can be used with the lenses for this bayonet.
The camera has a built-in light meter. It has been designed for films with a sensitivity of ISO 6 to ISO 6400. The film speed can be read out via the DX code. However, only ISO values from 25 to 5000 can be used. Exposure is measured through the lens. There are several exposure modes, including program exposure, aperture priority, aperture priority, and a manual mode.
The shutter allows exposure times from 1/8000 second to 30 seconds. It is designed for 100,000 exposures, which corresponds to approximately 2777 rolls of film. The camera also has a bulb mode, of course. This allows the shutter to remain open for a variable time and expose the film.
With the PC Flash connection and the Hot Shoe it is possible to use a flash. The sync speed for flash photography is 1/250 second.
The Canon EOS 1N has a built-in self-timer and a thread for a tripod.
The dimensions of the 35mm camera are 16.1 x 11.2 x 7.2 cm. It weighs 855 grams. The power supply comes from a 6V 2CR5 battery (eBay / Amazon*).
Films for the Canon EOS 1N
Which films does the Canon EOS 1N need? It needs 35mm films. The 35mm format is very common, therefore there are still some manufacturers and many development laboratories.
A recommendation for color photos is Kodak Portra 160*, but if you want to stay monochrome, Ilford Delta 400* is not bad.
The color film is developed in the C-41 process. The C-41 process is used by almost all photo labs.
With this exposure range, a film (135-36) usually holds at least 36 photos. The film transport is automatic. After each exposure, the camera rewinds to the next frame. Usually it reaches a speed of up to three frames per second.
Canon EOS 1N HS
This model name refers to the EOS 1N with the Power Drive Booster E1.
The Power Drive Booster E1 is powered by eight AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*) and achieves up to 6 frames per second in manual mode with One-Shot AF. So after about 6 seconds, the roll of film is already full.
The new price for this combination was 265,000 yen. Without batteries the whole thing weighs 1295 grams.
