The Canon EOS 1N RS is an SLR camera. The 35mm camera was built by Canon in the 90s. It is based on the EOS 1N, which was introduced one year earlier (1994).
The EOS-1N RS was advertised as the fastest autofocus camera in the world at that time. The special feature of the EOS-1N RS is that it has a solid, semi-transparent membrane mirror with a hard coating. The shutter release process is completed in 0.006 seconds. The technology for this was already used in Canon Pellix and Canon EOS RT.
The film is transported automatically by the camera. In the special RS mode (CH) up to 10 frames per second are possible. The minimum exposure time in this mode is 1/1000 second. With exposure times below 1/1000 s up to 1/250 s, up to 3 frames per second are still possible.
When the film is full, which can happen quickly at these speeds, it is automatically rewound. At normal speed, this takes 4.5 seconds for a 24-frame film; in silent mode, it takes 13 seconds.
The lens of the Canon EOS 1N RS is interchangeable. Lenses with an EF bayonet can be used. The 35 mm camera is equipped with an autofocus.
The Canon EOS 1N RS has a built-in light meter. It can be used with films from ISO 6 to ISO 6400. The film speed can be read out via the DX code. However, only ISO values from 25 to 5000 can be used. The correct exposure is measured through the lens. The camera is equipped with all the main exposure modes (program, aperture, shutter, manual).
The camera has a bulb mode. The shutter can remain open for a variable time. An external flash can be used via the Hot Shoe or PC Flash connection. The sync speed is 1/250 sec.
The Canon EOS 1N RS has a built-in self-timer and a thread for a tripod. The dimensions of the 35mm camera are 16.1 x 16 x 7.8 cm. It weighs 1295 grams. Power is supplied by eight AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*).
Films for the Canon EOS 1N RS
The Canon EOS 1N RS exposes 35mm film. Films of this format are still easy to obtain today and are still being developed. For color photos you can use Agfaphoto Vista 200*. The Kodak T-Max 100* is a good choice for black and white pictures.
Colour negative film is developed in the C-41 development process. C-41 films can be developed by most photo labs. For example, you can hand in your films at most drugstore chains in Germany.
