The Agfa APX 25 is a black and white film. It belongs to the category of low-sensitivity panchromatic B/W films. The ISO 25 is characterized by its sharpness and fine grain, making it well suited for enlarging.

The Agfa APX 25 is a black-and-white film suitable for creating monochrome images. The film is panchromatically sensitized, which means that it responds to all colors of the light spectrum. The ISO value of the film is 25, which indicates the film’s sensitivity to light. A higher ISO value means a higher sensitivity of the film and allows for shorter exposure times or a smaller aperture. Because of its low sensitivity, Agfa APX 25 is ideal for shooting with a large depth of field and allows a large aperture.

Since many films are eventually discontinued, it is common for unexposed film stock to be available only with an extended expiration date. The expiration date given by the manufacturer is only a guarantee of the quality of the film stock and has no direct bearing on the usability of the film for photographic purposes. However, it is possible that older films may lose light sensitivity due to storage conditions. Therefore, when storing film stock, the recommended conditions should be carefully observed.

The Agfa APX 25 development

Agfa APX 25 is a classic black and white film and requires a special black and white developer. Both professional photo labs and a suitable photographic chemistry and the right accessories make it possible to develop black and white film. The choice of developing chemicals can affect the image impression, such as contrast, film grain, and grayscale.

If there are no manufacturer’s development specifications for a particular developer-film combination, one can test different development instructions to find the best process. After the development process, film strips containing the captured images are available. Typically, these are then processed either as prints or digitized. Most developing labs offer the possibility to create prints in different sizes directly.

For further digital processing of the photos, the film strips can be digitized using a scanner. There are many different devices with different functions and qualities suitable for different budgets. The digitized photos can then be further processed or shared on various social media.

Formats & Availability

Production of the Agfa APX 25, both as 35mm film and for medium format cameras, ended. In addition to it, there was also the APX 100 and the APX 400.

Alternatives

A possible alternative to the Agfa APX 25, at least at its sensitivity level, would be the Rollei RPX 25.
