Adox Scala 50

Adox Scala 50 is a black and white film. It is sold by the German supplier.

The film is a superpanchromatic black and white film. It is characterized by its high resolution of up to 280 lp/mm. It also comes with excellent sharpness and a fine grain. The film copes, according to Adox, with a very high contrast range and comes with a rich black in the depths.

Development of the film

The clear carrier allows the film to be developed as slide film. For this purpose, Adox offers the Scala Reversal Kit, which allows you to do the development yourself at home. This development process is also offered by some professional labs if you don’t have the equipment or expertise. In the end, in both cases, you get back film strips with the positives. You can then frame the individual images and, as with color slides, throw them on the wall with a slide projector. Of course, you can also digitize the monochrome images normally with a scanner.

Formats

The Scala 50 is currently only sold for 35mm cameras. Theoretically, you can use the film in all cameras of this type. Due to the rather low film speed of ISO 50, you should only use the film in cameras with a fast lens or when there is a lot of available light. One cartridge contains material for about 36 pictures. The emulsion is cast from a PET carrier. This has a thickness of 100 microns.

Alternative

There are also alternatives for monochrome slide film. Also from Adox, there is the Adox Scala 160. Foma offers another product in this category with the Fomapan R100. The film from the Czech producer is also available for cine cameras. The advantage of both films is that they have a higher sensitivity and can therefore be used somewhat more flexibly.
