Trackcard

The security of one’s equipment is a constant concern for many photographers, especially when traveling with valuable cameras and lenses in busy cities or remote landscapes. Those who frequently switch gear or use multiple bags almost inevitably worry about the whereabouts of their belongings.

Trackcard’s tracker cards offer a discreet solution for keeping digital track of equipment. In this report, we’ll examine the capabilities of these cards for Android and iOS systems.

Features

The maps’ technical features are designed to operate in the background without constantly bombarding the user with notifications. Several versions are available, with the standard version primarily designed for Apple’s Find My network and Trackcard One targeting users of Google’s equivalent.

Both versions use Bluetooth technology to send encrypted signals to nearby devices, which then anonymously transmit the location back to the owner. The cards are barely thicker than a standard credit card, making them ideal for slipping into hidden compartments.

A key aspect is power supply, which is often a challenge with these slim devices. The models feature a built-in battery that can last for several years, depending on usage. The cards are also splash-proof according to common standards.

A small integrated speaker allows the user to trigger an audible signal if the card has disappeared under a stack of prints or behind a reflector in their home or studio. Setup is done directly through the smartphone manufacturer’s built-in apps, eliminating the need for additional third-party software, which benefits both data privacy and ease of use.

The cards are charged wirelessly. A compatible charger is also available from Trackcard.

In Practice as a Photographer

In a photographer’s daily work, there are moments when attention is focused entirely on the subject, and the surroundings and equipment fade into the background for a short time. I carried the Trackcard in my everyday camera bag for several weeks. Since these bags are often slim, the card fit easily into the back pocket where I usually keep my business cards.

During a trip, it was reassuring to occasionally see on the screen that the bag was still in the same place, for example, in the trunk.

The integrated alarm is loud enough to be noticed in a quiet room, but it reaches its physical limits in a noisy urban environment. However, this is inherent to the system and practically unavoidable given the card’s slim design.

A positive side effect of the flat design is that potential thieves don’t immediately recognize the card as a tracker if they only glance into the bag.

Conclusion

Trackcard’s tracker cards are a great solution for tracking your devices/bags. They stand out due to their discreet design and seamless integration with the major Apple and Google networks.

For photographers who value a slim setup and want to discreetly secure their bags, these cards offer real added value.

You get a functional tool that performs its task without any fuss. A practical advantage is that they are easily rechargeable, eliminating the need to buy exotic batteries.
