The Rollei AFM 35 is a high-quality camera. It was presented by Rollei in the 2000s. It was produced by the Japanese company Fujifilm. They offered a similar model with the Fujifilm Class.
The 35mm photo camera comes with a fixed lens. The name of the lens is “S-Apogon 38 mm f/2.6 HFT.” The focal length is 38 mm and the widest aperture of the lens is f/2.6. Focusing is simplified by a built-in autofocus. However, there is also a manual mode. The closest focusing distance of the lens is 40 cm.
For measuring the exposure, the 35 mm camera has a light meter. It is designed for films from ISO 50 to ISO 3200. The film speed is read by the camera technology through the DX code on the film cartridge.
There are two modes for exposure. Thus, there is a program automatic mode. In this mode, the camera selects aperture and shutter speed. In the aperture priority mode, you select the aperture and the camera automatic sets the appropriate shutter speed.
Values of 1/1000 second and 1/2 second are possible with the shutter. However, the values vary somewhat according to the aperture setting. For example, the maximum shutter speed at f/2.6 is 1/290 second. Additionally, there is a Bulb mode for long exposures from 1 second to 60 seconds.
In low light conditions, the built-in flash can be used. This is charged within about four seconds and has a guide number of 11 (ISO 100). It can be used in various modes. There is an auto flash, fill-in flash, red-eye prevention mode, slow sync mode with and without red-eye prevention. However, the flash can also be turned off.
Other features of the Rollei AFM 35 include a self-timer and the ability to bracket exposures. The exposure time can also be imprinted on the pictures. There is a thread for a tripod on the bottom of the housing.
The dimensions of the 35mm camera are 12.3 x 6.3 x 3.35 cm. Without film and batteries, it weighs 250 grams with its metal housing. The camera requires a CR2 battery (eBay / Amazon*). You can get these batteries very easily online.
Films for the Rollei AFM 35
According to the instruction manual, the Rollei AFM 35 requires 35mm films. These films are still being manufactured and can be specified from almost any developing vendor. Possible films for the Rollei AFM 35 that can still be purchased today are the Kodak Portra 400* and the Kodak T-Max 100*. Both films give solid results with the camera and can be used in many situations
The Rollei AFM 35 negatives are 24mm x 36mm in size. The film advance is automatic and is activated after each shot. The photographer does not have to advance it. It is also possible to rewind the film in the middle of the roll. A small window shows the inserted film. The number of photos taken shown on a display.
