The Fujifilm Instax Square Link is a compact smartphone printer from Japanese manufacturer Fujifilm, launched in 2022. The device is used to output digital photos from smartphones onto analog instant film.
The recording medium is the square Instax Square format, which is based on classic Polaroid photography. The printer thus bridges the gap between digital photography on mobile devices and tactile image output on instant film.
Connection between the smartphone and the printer is established via Bluetooth. Control is handled entirely through a free application available for iOS and Android operating systems. Within this app, users can select the desired photo, adjust it, and send it to the device.
The printer's housing comes in simple colors like Ash White and Midnight Green. It has a rounded shape and is lightweight, making it easy to carry in a bag. Power is supplied by a built-in battery that is charged via an included USB cable. A full battery charge is sufficient for printing about 100 images.
A special feature of the model lies in the software functions of the accompanying application. In addition to basic editing options such as adjusting brightness, contrast, and filters, the software offers specialized functions.
These include the so-called AR Print, which integrates augmented reality elements into the image. A QR code is placed on the printed image, which, when scanned with a smartphone camera, overlays digital animations, text, or voice messages on the image.
Another feature is called Instax Connect. It allows users to send digital images with text messages through the app to other people, who can then print them on their own device.
The Instax Square film used has a total size of 86 by 72 millimeters, while the actual image area measures 62 by 62 millimeters. The color reproduction can be selected between 2 modes in the app.
The Instax Natural mode provides a more classic color representation with soft tones, while the Instax Rich mode produces more vibrant colors. After image transfer, the film is mechanically transported out of the housing.
The development of the instant image occurs chemically under light influence within about 90 seconds. The Fujifilm Instax Square Link is aimed at users who want to preserve or give away digital snapshots in physical form.
