The Fujifilm Instax Mini Link in the Pikachu Edition is a mobile instant photo printer that was released in 2021 in cooperation with Nintendo. Technically, the model is based on the regular Instax Mini Link, but differs through visual adjustments and special accessories in the style of the well-known Pokémon character Pikachu. The device allows digital photos from smartphones or the Nintendo Switch console to be printed on analog instant film.
The external design of the special edition uses the Ash White color variant as a base. In this version, the controls and edges are accented with red and blue, oriented towards the colors of the Nintendo Switch. Additionally, a yellow silicone case shaped like Pikachu is included. This protective case can be slipped over the device and protects it from bumps and scratches in everyday use.
The connection to the smartphone or console is established via Bluetooth. A special app is available for operation, allowing images to be edited, cropped, and filtered. For this edition, digital frames with motifs from Pokémon and other Nintendo games have been integrated into the software. The actual printing process takes about 12 seconds. After the paper is ejected, the chemical development of the image takes approximately 90 seconds.
The consumable material is the usual Fujifilm Instax Mini Film. An instant photo has a total size of 86 x 54 mm and a visible image area of 62 x 46 mm. The compatible film cartridges each hold 10 pictures and are inserted into the compartment on the back.
Power is supplied by a built-in lithium-ion battery that is charged via a USB cable. A full charge is sufficient for printing about 100 instant photos. The weight of the printer is approximately 200 grams without a film cartridge.
