The Fujifilm Instax Mini 13 is an analog instant camera from the Japanese manufacturer Fujifilm. It was introduced in March 2026 as the successor to the Instax Mini 12 and represents the entry-level model within the Instax product family for the compact Mini film format.
History
Fujifilm entered the analog instant photography market in the 1990s. While the market for classic instant systems shrank significantly with the advent of digital photography in the early 2000s, Fujifilm managed to build continuous demand with the Instax system, particularly in the consumer and lifestyle sectors.
Over the years, Fujifilm continuously developed the model line. Milestones in the entry-level series included the Instax Mini 8 from 2012 and the Instax Mini 9 from 2017, which solidified Fujifilm's market position in the instant segment. With the Instax Mini 11 in 2020, the manufacturer introduced fully automatic exposure control, followed by the Instax Mini 12 in 2023, which integrated a redesigned rotating lens for control and parallax correction in close-up range.
The Instax Mini 13, announced in March 2026, continues this tradition. It retains the basic operating concept of its predecessors but introduces a visually redesigned body with rounded contours and, for the first time in this segment, adds an integrated dual self-timer.
Film Format and Consumables
The Instax Mini 13 exclusively requires the manufacturer's own Fujifilm Instax Mini film format. The current film is the Instax Mini Film*. Films of other formats such as Instax Square or Instax Wide, as well as instant films from third-party manufacturers, are not compatible.
The external dimensions of the image carrier are 86 by 54 millimeters, roughly the size of a credit card, while the actual image area measures 62 by 46 millimeters. The film sensitivity is ISO 800 for daylight and flash balance.
The chemical development of the image takes about 90 seconds at room temperature. The required film is supplied in closed cartridges of 10 exposures each. In addition to the standard color film with a classic white frame, numerous variants exist, such as the monochrome black-and-white film (Instax Mini Monochrome*) as well as various color films with printed or colored frames.
Technical Specifications
The camera operates largely automatically and omits manual controls for shutter speed or aperture. The optical system uses a two-element fixed-focal-length lens with a focal length of 60 millimeters and an aperture of f/12.7.
The programmed electronic shutter covers speeds from 1/2 to 1/250 second and offers automatic long-time synchronization in low light. Exposure control is fully automatic in the range of LV 5.0 to 14.5 at ISO 800.
A real-image optical viewfinder with 0.37x magnification and target mark serves as the viewfinder, with automatic parallax correction in close-up mode adjusting the viewfinder image to the lens axis.
The regular shooting range extends from 0.3 meters to infinity, while the switchable close-up mode is designed for distances from 0.3 to 0.5 meters. Illumination is provided by a built-in constant flash with automatic brightness adjustment and a range of 0.3 to 2.2 meters.
The electronically controlled self-timer offers selectable delays of 2 or 10 seconds and is indicated by a status LED. Power is supplied by two AA alkaline batteries ( (eBay / Amazon*)), whose capacity is sufficient for about 10 film cartridges or 100 shots.
The body dimensions are 105.5 x 124.7 x 67.6 millimeters, with a weight of approximately 327 grams without batteries and film cartridge. As of July 2026, the Fujifilm Instax Mini 13 is offered in five pastel colors: Candy Pink, Frost Blue, Clay White, Lagoon Green, and Dreamy Purple.
Operation and Features
The camera is turned on and off by rotating the lens ring. A rotation from the off position switches the device to standard mode, while another rotation activates close-up mode for macro shots and selfies.
On the front of the lens, there is a small mirror for alignment during self-portraits. The built-in self-timer can be operated via a body button.
The package also includes a small wedge attachment for adjusting the tilt angle, which can be inserted under the camera body to align the device on flat surfaces for self-timer shots.
Comparison with the Instax Mini 12
Compared to its direct predecessor Instax Mini 12, the Instax Mini 13 retains the basic technical core functions. These include the two-element lens with a focal length of 60 millimeters, fully automatic exposure control for shutter speed and flash intensity, and the basic principle of the rotating lens for power on/off.
The automatic parallax correction in close-up mode and the small selfie mirror on the lens, introduced with the Instax Mini 12, have also been adopted unchanged.
Both models also use the same film cartridge in the Instax Mini format and are powered by two AA batteries.
The main innovations of the Instax Mini 13 lie in the expanded features for time-delayed shots and group photos. While the Instax Mini 12 had no integrated timer and required manual release directly on the body, the Instax Mini 13 features an electronic self-timer with delays of 2 or 10 seconds.
Additionally, the Instax Mini 13 differs with the included accessory for tilt angle adjustment, which allows stable angling of the camera on flat surfaces.
Externally, the model also differs with slightly altered body contours featuring a more rounded design and a new color spectrum.
