The Polaroid Supercolor Esprit is an instant camera from Polaroid. The range of functions offered by the model is congruent with the Polaroid One Step Flash. As you can imagine, the camera is no longer manufactured new today.

This edition was developed for Esprit. Models were offered in two color schemes. One in pink-gray-turquoise and one in red-yellow-dark blue. Esprit was founded in the 1960s and mainly sells clothing.

The Polaroid Supercolor Esprit is extremely user-friendly. It has been designed without most of the setting options found on other types of cameras. Thanks to its ease of use, it can be used for many different occasions. It is suitable for parties, for example, and also looks good at weddings. You can also have a lot of fun with it on vacation.

The most important settings are fixed. The shutter speed and aperture value cannot be freely selected. The lens is fixed and cannot be changed. There is no zoom function. To zoom, you have to get closer to the subject. For clear pictures, a minimum distance of 60 cm should be kept if possible.

The instant camera has a built-in flash. It is used automatically. This is also necessary, especially for indoor shots, because the camera needs a lot of light for good pictures.

Films for the Polaroid Supercolor Esprit

Very important for the Polaroid instant camera are the correct photo films. As a result of various events, the American company Polaroid has ceased film production. But there is a new edition under the same name from another company.

There is an instant film for black and white and color pictures. For color photos with the instant camera, you can go for the Polaroid Color Film for 600*. Simple black-and-white pictures are no problem with Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. How do the films perform in tests? Both films can convince in many situations.

One pack contains a film cassette with eight images. The light-sensitive film material should not come into contact with light outside the camera. The unexposed film material should not be stored in the sun or in a humid place.

One image has a size of 10.8 x 8.8 cm. The captured image occupies an area of 7.7 by 7.7 cm. The rest is filled by a white frame. Special edition Polaroid films with colorful frames are also offered.

Are the Instax films compatible with the Polaroid Supercolor Esprit? No, the films will not fit.

Batteries

What kind of batteries do you need for the Polaroid camera? With this type of camera, the power source is found inside the film cassette. It contains enough power for all unexposed images in the film cassette. Even when using the flash. So changing the film is also changing the battery. The instant camera itself does not require another battery.

If the camera with film inside has not been used for a long time, the battery may have discharged. Of course, without sufficient power supply, the camera will stop working. You can fix the problem without repair, simply by replacing the inserted film.

Manual for the Polaroid Supercolor Esprit

How to use the instant camera? A quick guide to taking photos with the camera.

The first step is to load the instant film. To open the camera, slide the slider on the side of the camera body. Then the film cassette is inserted. The flap can then be closed again. The protective film is now automatically removed from the camera.

Now you can take pictures. To do this, aim the camera at the subject and press the shutter release button. The motor inside the camera transports the image out of the film cassette. In the process, it passes through two rollers, which distribute the chemistry for development over the image. The development process is completed after a short waiting time. Then you can look at the final result.

Alternatives

If the camera cannot be found, one has alternatives available. Possibilities would include the Polaroid One600* and Polaroid Sun 660*. These models are either functionally identical or offer a similar range of features. They are also both for the 600 format and require the same films.

Potential replacements also exist outside of the Polaroid world. You can reach for the Instax Mini EVO* and Instax Mini 8*, for example. Suitable film material will continue to be produced for both cameras.
