The Polaroid Sun 600 SE 50th is a camera from Polaroid. It is an instant camera from the 1980s. The functionality of the model is the same as the Polaroid One Step Flash.

The model was introduced for the 50th anniversary of the American photography pioneer. The 50th anniversary took place in 1987. Next to the flash you can find the imprint “Polaroid 50 1937-1987”. For the colors of the case, they went for gold and black.

A key feature of the Polaroid Sun 600 SE 50th is its ease of use. Many setting options that are common in other types of cameras have been eliminated. Thanks to its straightforwardness, it can be used on many occasions. For example, a nice event for using the camera is a wedding or at other celebrations. The camera also cuts a decent figure when traveling.

Changing the shooting settings is not possible. The exposure time cannot be changed. You can’t choose the aperture value yourself either. The lens is fixed and cannot be changed. The model does not have a zoom function. The shortest focusing distance is 120 cm. This minimum distance must be kept for sharp pictures.

The instant camera has a built-in flash. It fires automatically when the picture is taken. Since the camera needs a lot of light due to the small aperture, the flash comes to the rescue in many cases.

Films for the Polaroid Sun 600 SE 50th

Quite important for the photo camera are the appropriate photo films. The device manufacturer, Polaroid from the USA, has ended the production of instant films. But there is a new edition under the same name from a new company.

Easy to find online are a color instant film and a black and white film. The Polaroid Color Film for 600* is the film for color photos. Black and white photography is possible with the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. They are both very fun to use.

One box is enough for eight shots. Under no circumstances should the photosensitive material come into contact with light. For longer storage, find a dry place to store it. In addition, it should not be stored too warm.

How large is an image? It is 10.8 x 8.8 cm in size. An area of 7.7 by 7.7 cm is provided for the actual picture. The rest of the Polaroid image is filled by a white area. Different editions of Polaroid films also have colorful frames.

Batteries

What kind of batteries do you need for the Polaroid instant camera? In this type of camera, the battery is located in the film cassette. The disposable battery holds the necessary energy to power the camera technology, such as the motor, camera shutter and flash. So replacing the film also serves as a change of power source. There is no need to purchase another battery for the camera.

The disposable battery should not be disposed of with the film cassette in normal household waste. The disposable battery should be removed from the cassette and taken to a local recycling center.

How to take photos with the instant camera? A clear guide on how to use the Polaroid camera.

First of all, you need to load the instant film. To do this, first slide the slider on the side forward so that the film door opens. Then the film cassette is inserted. Then the flap can be closed again. The camera now ejects the protective cover of the film.

The camera is now ready for use. Hold the camera on the subject and press the release button. The camera transports the image from the film cassette and the development of the image begins. After a few minutes, the development is complete and you can view the image.

Alternatives

If you can’t find this model, you can resort to alternatives. The first possible option is the original model Polaroid One Step Flash. It offers the same features and needs the same films.

A new angle is brought by other manufacturers of cameras. A good entry point is the Instax Mini EVO* and Instax Mini 9*. Suitable film stock is also still being manufactured.
