The Polaroid Spirit 600 Idexx Snap is an instant camera from Polaroid. The range of functions offered by the model is congruent with the Polaroid One Step Flash.

This edition was realized together with Idexx. IDEXX Laboratories is an American company. It is active in the field of veterinary medicine and biotechnology. The color design is black and silver. Next to the flash is the “snap tm” logo with a cat and dog. Above the film output is the logo of Idexx.

One of the standout features of the Polaroid Spirit 600 Idexx Snap is its ease of use. Many of the setting options available on other types of cameras have been eliminated. Thanks to its simplicity, it can be used on many occasions. For example, weddings or parties would be good uses for the camera. Especially on vacation, taking pictures with the camera is of course a lot of fun.

It is not possible to change the basic exposure settings. There is no possibility to freely adjust shutter speed and aperture. Changing the lens is impossible. It is a fixed focal length. A zoom, which is common in smartphones, is not integrated in this model. Instead of pressing the zoom button, you have to get closer to the subject for close-ups. The minimum distance for focusing is 120 cm. This minimum distance must be ensured for the clearest possible pictures.

The Polaroid instant camera has a built-in flash. The flash happens automatically when the picture is taken. Especially when shooting indoors, this is also necessary, because the camera needs a lot of light for good photos.

Films for the Polaroid Spirit 600 Idexx Snap

Of course, films are also needed for the instant camera. The original film material from the American company Polaroid is no longer available for purchase. However, a new company is producing films again.

In specialized trade there is a black and white and a color film. The name of the color film is Polaroid Color Film for 600*. If you prefer to take monochrome pictures, you can use the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. The Polaroid films also do well in test reports.

One pack is enough for eight pictures. Since the film material is light-sensitive, it must not come into contact with it outside the camera. For the storage of unexposed film material, one should look for a storage place that is as cool and dry as possible.

As prescribed in the standard, an image is 10.8 x 8.8 cm. An area of 7.7 by 7.7 cm is reserved for the actual image. The remaining space is filled by a white area. Also available are editions of the Polaroid films with colorful frames.

Instax instant film from Fujifilm cannot be used with the Polaroid Spirit 600 Idexx Snap.

Batteries

Do I need a specific type of battery for the Polaroid camera? The power supply unit of the camera is a battery located in the film cassette. The disposable battery holds the necessary power to supply the camera technology with flash. So replacing the film also serves as replacing the power source. There is no need to buy another battery for the camera.

The film cassette together with the battery should not be disposed of in the household waste. It is best to take the plastic cassette or just the battery to a responsible local drop-off center.

Instructions for the Polaroid Spirit 600 Idexx Snap

How to use the instant camera? A little starter guide to operating and taking pictures with the camera.

The first operation is to load the instant film. The film door opens by pressing the slider on the side of the housing. The film cassette is inserted and the flap is closed again. Now the camera ejects the protective cover of the film.

Now it’s time to take the picture. Hold the camera on the subject and press the shutter button. The camera’s motor ejects the image. Now the photochemistry starts to develop the image. After a short wait, the development process is complete. Then you can look at the final result.

Alternative Cameras

If you can’t find the camera, you can move on to other options. A first alternative is the Polaroid One Step Flash. It offers the same capability and needs the same film stock.

If it should be a different film format, there is a larger selection of different instant cameras. Here, for example, there are the LomoInstant* and Instax Mini 9*. The instant films are still produced for these models as well.
