The Polaroid Lightmixer 630 SL is an instant camera from Polaroid. The model is based on the Polaroid One Step Flash in terms of functionality. Today, this camera is admittedly no longer built.
The Polaroid Lightmixer 630 SL is easy to use. Most of the setting options found in other camera models have been eliminated. Because of its simplicity, it can be used for many different occasions. Good uses for the camera include wedding parties and other celebrations. The camera is also a faithful companion on vacation.
It is not possible to change the basic exposure settings. An arbitrary choice or free choice of shutter speed and aperture is not possible. The lens has a fixed focal length. Changing the lens is not provided. There is no zoom function. To zoom, you have to get closer to the subject. The shortest distance for focusing is 120 cm. This minimum distance has to be kept for sharp pictures.
A built-in flash is of course also part of the package on this camera. The flash is triggered automatically. Especially in low light conditions, the flash is a lifesaver.
Films for the Polaroid Lightmixer 630 SL
Of course, films are also needed for the Polaroid instant camera. The American company Polaroid, the camera manufacturer, has stopped the production of films. A new company offers films for the film format again since 2010.
On the Internet you can find dealers who sell a color film and a film for monochrome photos. Instant photos in color are possible with the Polaroid Color Film for 600*. Classic black and white images are possible with the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. Both films cut a fine figure in use.
There are a whole eight images in one pack. Contact with light, outside camera, can destroy the unexposed film material. For longer storage, find a dry place to store it. In addition, it should not be stored too warm.
Following the standard, a picture is 10.8 x 8.8 cm. The 600 cameras produce square pictures with a dimension of 7.7 by 7.7 cm. The rest of the Polaroid image is filled by a white area. Are white frames too boring? Then there are also editions with colorful frames.
Important, the instant films from Fujifilm can not be used in the instant camera.
Batteries
What kind of batteries are needed for the Polaroid Lightmixer 630 SL? In this type of camera, the power source is located in the film cassette. The disposable battery supplies power to the camera with flash. So with each film change, the battery is also changed. An additional battery is not required for the instant camera.
If the camera with film has been stored for a long time, the battery may have discharged. Without sufficient power supply, the camera will of course no longer work. In this case, you simply need to remove the film and replace it with fresh film stock.
Manual for the Polaroid Lightmixer 630 SL
How to take instant pictures with the instant camera? A small instruction manual on how to use the instant camera.
The first step is to insert the film. To do this, slide the slider on the side forward and open the film door. Now the cassette with the film material can be inserted. Then the flap can be closed again. The protective film is now automatically removed from the camera.
Now you can take pictures with the camera. To capture the desired subject on film, the shutter release button located on the side of the housing must be pressed. The electric motor inside the camera transports the exposed image from the film cassette through two rollers. This distributes the developing chemicals over the image. After a few minutes, you have the finished image in your hand.
Similar models
If you can’t find the camera, you can use other options. An obvious choice would be the Polaroid One Step Flash. It has the same range of features. Plus, of course, it exposes the same films.
There is also a possible alternative to Polaroid cameras. Two instant cameras that are not Polaroid are the Instax Mini EVO* and Diana Instant Square*. The films for these instant cameras are sold online by many vendors.
