The Polaroid Kodomo no Omocha is an instant camera from Polaroid. The functionality of the model is the same as the Polaroid One Step (rounded corners).
The camera was created for the Japanese company and is inspired by the manga series Kodomo no Omocha. The body of the camera is pink, yellow and purple. It is already the second model for the 600 format with Kodomo no Omocha branding.
The Polaroid Kodomo no Omocha impresses with its ease of use. Most of the setting options common to other types of cameras have been omitted. Because of its simplicity, it can be used for many different occasions. For example, weddings or parties would be good areas of application for the camera. It is also a loyal partner on vacation.
The most important settings are already fixed. Free setting of exposure time and aperture is not possible. The camera comes with a fixed lens. There is no zoom function, as with a digital camera. To achieve razor-sharp results, a minimum distance of 60 cm from the subject should be maintained. For this, the close-up lens must be pushed in front of the actual lens.
The instant camera has an integrated flash. It switches on automatically when taking a picture. This is also necessary, especially for indoor shots, because the camera requires a lot of light for successful pictures.
Films for the Polaroid Kodomo no Omocha
You also need films for using the Polaroid Kodomo no Omocha, of course. The manufacturer of the camera, Polaroid, has stopped production. However, a new company is making films again.
There is suitable film material for color photos and monochrome pictures. The Polaroid Color Film for 600* is the film for color photos. Black and white photos can also be easily created, for which there is the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. Both films get a good rating in test reports.
The content of one pack is eight pictures. Under no circumstances should the photosensitive material come into contact with light. For storing unused film material, one should look for a cool and dry place.
One image has a size of 10.8 x 8.8 cm. As with SX-70 cameras, the actual image is square and 7.7 by 7.7 cm. The rest is filled by a white area. But there are also Polaroid films with colorful frames.
Can the Instax films from the Japanese manufacturer be used? No, the films are not suitable for the Polaroid camera.
Batteries
What batteries are needed for the Polaroid instant camera? The power supply unit of the camera is a battery located in the film cassette. It feeds the camera with the necessary power to take the pictures. So the film replacement also represents a change of the power source. There is no need to buy another battery for the camera.
The disposable battery should not be disposed of with the film cassette in normal household waste. It is best to take the plastic cassette or battery to a suitable local drop-off location.
User’s Manual for the Polaroid Kodomo no Omocha
How to take photos with the instant camera? A clear instruction manual on how to use the Polaroid Kodomo no Omocha.
The first step is to insert the instant film. To open the film door, the slider on the side of the housing is pushed forward. Now the cassette with the film material can be inserted. Then the flap can be closed again. The film protecting the film is now removed by the motor in the camera.
The camera is now ready to take pictures. To capture the desired subject on film, the shutter release button on the side of the housing must be pressed. The motor in the camera now ejects the instant image and development is started. The development process is quickly finished after a waiting period and you can take a closer look at the final result.
Alternatives
If you can’t find the camera, you should turn to other options. The first option here is the Polaroid One Step (rounded corners). It offers the same features and needs the same films.
There is also a possible alternative to the Polaroid cameras. Two instant cameras are the Instax Mini EVO* and LomoInstant Square*. Again, you can still easily purchase the film stock.
