The Polaroid 637 is an instant camera. It is identical in functionality to the Polaroid 600 (round above). Of course, new copies are no longer produced today. The housing is in gray and black. Some accents in the design of the housing have been set in turquoise.

The Polaroid 637 is extremely user-friendly. Most of the setting options found on other types of cameras have been omitted. Its simplicity allows it to be used on many occasions. If you are planning a wedding or a party, the camera is a good choice for taking pictures. Even on vacation, the camera cuts a very good figure.

The basic exposure settings cannot be changed. For example, the aperture and shutter speed cannot be changed by the user. The lens has a fixed focal length. It is not possible to exchange the optics. The model also does not have a zoom function. 60 cm should not be undercut in order to achieve the clearest possible result when taking pictures.

The photo camera has an integrated photo flash. It fires automatically when the picture is taken. Especially when shooting indoors, this is also necessary, because the camera needs a lot of light for good photos.

Films for the Polaroid 637

Indispensable for taking photos with the camera are the associated instant films. The American company Polaroid has not produced films for many years. In the meantime, however, you can again find suitable films on store shelves, both online and offline.

For the camera, there is both a color film and a black and white film. For color photos, there is the Polaroid Color Film for 600*. Monochrome images can be created with the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. In test reports, the films usually get a good rating.

One pack is designed for eight images. The light-sensitive film material should not come into contact with light outside the camera. Unexposed film material should be stored in a dark and dry place.

True to standard, an image measures 10.8 x 8.8 cm. The captured image occupies an area of 7.7 by 7.7 cm. The remaining area is filled by a white surface. Also available are editions of Polaroid films with colorful frames.

Batteries

What type of battery is needed for the Polaroid 637? With this type of camera, the battery is found in the cassette along with the unexposed images. The disposable battery holds the necessary power to power the camera technology with flash. So replacing the film is also replacing the battery. A second or additional battery is not necessary for the instant camera.

If the camera with film inside has not been used for a long time, the battery may have discharged. As a result, in many cases, the camera will stop working. You can fix the problem without repairing by simply replacing the inserted film.

Tutorial for the Polaroid 637

How to take pictures with the instant camera? A brief tutorial on how the instant camera works.

The first step is to load the film. To do this, push the small slider on the side forward. This opens the film door. Then insert the film cassette and close the flap again. The protective film that has protected the film material from light until now is now automatically removed by the camera technology.

The camera is now ready to take pictures. Pressing the release button on the side of the housing takes the picture. The motor in the camera now ejects the image and development begins. After a few minutes, you have the finished image in your hand.

Alternative models

If you can’t find a camera, you can turn to alternatives. Here, for example, the Polaroid OneStep Autofocus* and Polaroid 600 Business Edition* come to mind. These models offer similar features. They use the identical film format.

You might want to reach for other instant cameras as an alternative. Outside of the Polaroid world, you can find the LomoInstant Wide* and Instax Wide 300*, for example. Here, too, you can still easily purchase the film material.
