The Polaroid 637 AF is an instant camera. The range of functions offered by the model is congruent with the Polaroid 600 Autofocus (round above). The body of the camera is made of plastic. When it comes to the design, the developers have chosen the colors black, gray, silver and a shade of blue.

The Polaroid 637 AF stands out for its ease of use. The vast majority of setting options found on other types of cameras have been omitted. This ease of entry means that the camera can be used by anyone and is suitable for many situations. For example, it is an excellent choice for parties and weddings. However, it can also be a lot of fun on vacation.

There is no way to change the exposure settings. You can’t change the exposure time. You also can’t choose the aperture value yourself. The lens is fixed and cannot be changed. The lens does not have a zoom function.

The Polaroid camera does not have to do without a built-in flash. The flash fires automatically when taking pictures. This is also necessary, especially for indoor shots, because the camera needs a lot of light for good pictures.

Films for the Polaroid 637 AF

Extremely important for the photo camera are the appropriate photo films. The manufacturer of the camera, the American company Polaroid, has stopped production. A new company is again producing films for the film format.

There is suitable film material for color photos and monochrome pictures. The Polaroid Color Film for 600* is the material for color photos. Black and white photos can also be easily created, for this purpose there is the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. The two instant films score averagely well in test reports.

You’ll find eight pictures in a pack. The light-sensitive film material should not come into contact with light outside the camera. The unused film material should be stored in a dark, cool and dry place.

Following the standard, an image is 10.8 x 8.8 cm. An area of 7.7 by 7.7 cm is reserved for the actual image. The remaining area of the Polaroid picture is white. Also available are editions of Polaroid films with colorful frames.

Batteries

What batteries do you need for the Polaroid 637 AF? With this type of camera, the power source is found in the cassette along with the unexposed images. The disposable battery contains the necessary power for the camera technology with flash. So the replacement of the film also represents a change of the battery. It is not necessary to buy an additional battery for the camera.

The disposable battery should not be disposed of with the film cassette in the household waste. The battery should be removed from the cassette and taken to a local drop-off location.

Tutorial for the Polaroid 637 AF

How to take photos with the instant camera? A brief guide on how to use the Polaroid instant camera.

First, insert the film. To do this, move the slider on the side forward to open the film cover. Then insert the film cassette and close the cover again. The next step is done automatically by the camera. It removes the protective film from the film.

Now it is possible to start taking pictures. The subject can be aimed through the viewfinder. On the side is then the shutter release for taking pictures. The motor in the camera now ejects the image and development begins. After a short waiting time, the development process is complete. Then you can take a closer look at the final result.

Alternative options

If you can’t locate the camera, you can opt for alternatives. The Polaroid 636 Closeup* and Polaroid Family* would be other options. These models come with comparable functional features. They use the identical film format.

You may also want to reach for other instant cameras as an alternative. The LomoInstant* and Instax Wide 300* would be good alternatives to Polaroid cameras. Fresh film stock can still be purchased for these cameras as well.
