The Polaroid 636 Polatalk is a photo camera. It belongs to the group of instant cameras. The model is based on the Polaroid 636 Talking Camera in terms of functionality.

The peculiarity of this model is that it makes sound effects while taking pictures. Thus, you can set it to make a sound effect when you press the shutter button. You can use some preset effects or record your own sounds and tones with the built-in microphone.

The Polaroid 636 Polatalk is extremely user-friendly. Most of the settings found in other camera models have been eliminated. Thanks to its simplicity, it can be used on many occasions. For example, it is an excellent choice for parties and weddings. It is also a good companion during vacations.

The most important settings are fixed. Aperture and shutter speed, for example, cannot be changed by the user. The camera is equipped with a fixed lens. This model does not have a practical zoom function. To zoom in, you have to get closer to the subject. A minimum distance of 60 cm from the subject should be maintained for sharp pictures.

An integrated flash should not be missing in this camera, of course. The flash fires automatically. Especially when shooting indoors, this is also important, because the camera needs a lot of light for optimal photos.

Films for the Polaroid 636 Polatalk

You also need films for using the Polaroid 636 Polatalk, of course. The manufacturer of the camera, the company Polaroid from the USA, has given up the production of film material. Don’t worry, since 2010 films for the old 600 cameras are offered again.

There is both a color film and a black and white film for the camera. The Polaroid Color Film for 600* is the instant film for color pictures. For monochrome images, the Polaroid B&W Film for 600* is the one to reach for. In tests, both can often do well and get a high rating score.

One pack is enough for eight pictures. The light-sensitive film material should not come into contact with light outside the camera. For storing the unused material, one should find a place with cool and dark properties.

As prescribed in the standard, an image is 10.8 x 8.8 cm. In this case, the captured image occupies an area of 7.7 by 7.7 cm. The remaining area of the Polaroid picture is filled by a white area. Special edition Polaroid films with colorful frames are also offered.

Important. The instant films from the company Fujifilm do not fit with the Polaroid instant camera.

Batteries

What batteries are necessary for the Polaroid camera? With this type of camera, the power source is found in the film cassette. It supplies power to the camera technology and flash. So replacing the film also provides a fresh power source. There is no need to buy an additional battery for the camera.

The film cassette with the battery should not be disposed of in household waste. The battery should be removed from the cassette and taken to a local drop-off location.

Instructions for the Polaroid 636 Polatalk

How to take pictures with the instant camera? A quick guide on how the Polaroid 636 Polatalk works.

The first step is to load the film. To do this, slide the slider on the side forward and open the film door. Now the cassette with the film material can be inserted. Afterwards, the flap can be locked again. The light-proof film over the film cassette is now automatically removed from the camera.

Now it’s time to take the picture. Hold the camera on the subject and press the shutter release button. The camera transports the image from the film cassette and the development of the image begins. Within a few minutes, the process of developing the image is finished and you can admire the final result.

Alternative Cameras

If you can’t find the camera, it is advisable to resort to other options. The first option is, of course, the Polaroid 636 Talking Camera. It offers the same range of functions and requires the same films.

You might also want cameras from other manufacturers as an alternative. Outside of the Polaroid world, you can find the LomoInstant Square* and Instax Wide 300*. The films for these models can be conveniently purchased online.
