The Olympus AF 50mm f/2.8 Macro is a classic lens from the Olympus brand. It was introduced quite late in the OM history and is one of the few specimens with autofocus.
The lens has a focal length of 50 mm. For this reason, it can be counted among the group of normal lenses and is well suited for everyday shooting or portraits. The maximum large aperture of the fixed focal length is specified as f/2.8. The smallest aperture is f/32. The manufacturer specifies 20 cm as the closest focusing distance. With the macro lens, it is possible to take pictures with a scale of 1:1.
You can connect the 50 mm lens to only two models in the OM series. These are the OM-707 (OM-77 AF) and OM-101 PF (OM-88). This is not because it won’t fit, but because the settings in the lens are made by the camera electronics. There is no focus ring or aperture adjustment on the lens.
Since you cannot change the focus and aperture, it makes little sense to use the autofocus lens on a modern SLR camera with an adapter. So if you want to use an old Olympus lens with your DSLR, you should rather buy a manual one.
The number of lens elements on the Olympus AF 50mm f/2.8 Macro is listed as eight. These elements are arranged in seven different groups. With an overall length of 6.6 cm, you get a weight of 340 grams.
A 49 mm filter lens, e.g. a UV filter, can be attached in front of the lens. There is no need for a lens hood, since the front lens is recessed very deeply. Therefore, you will probably not get any problems with light incidence or lens flares.
