Nikon AF230

The Nikon AF230 is a 35mm camera. It was presented to the public in 1997. It is the successor of the Nikon AF220. The model was also sold as Nikon Fun Touch 5 with the same functions.

The camera comes with a fixed lens. 29 mm is the focal length of the lens. The camera’s widest aperture is f/4.5. Focusing is made easier by a built-in autofocus. The closest focusing distance of the lens is 130 cm.

The 35mm photo camera has a built-in light meter. It is designed for films with a sensitivity of ISO 100 or ISO 400. The Nikon AF230 reads the DX code of the film cartridge and sets the light meter accordingly. The exposure settings are automatically determined by the camera.

A built-in flash is available for low-light shooting. With ISO 100 films it reaches up to 8 meters. It takes six seconds to regenerate between exposures. The 35 mm camera has a built-in self-timer and a thread for a tripod.

The dimensions of the Nikon AF230 are 11.8 x 6.5 x 4.2 cm according to the manual. It weighs 165 grams. Two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*) are responsible for the power supply. According to the manufacturer, the batteries should be sufficient for 20 rolls of film.

Films for the Nikon AF230

The Nikon AF230 is a 35mm camera and needs 35mm film. Films of this format are still easy to get today and are still being developed. A 35mm film for color pictures is the Kodak Ultramax 400*. A possible black and white film is the AgfaPhoto APX 400*.

The color film is designed for development in the C-41 process. The C-41 films are offered by most photo laboratories.

The negatives of Nikon AF230 have a size of 24 mm x 36 mm. At this size, a film (135-36) will usually fit at least 36 photos. The film in the camera is transported automatically.

Additionally a Quartz Date model was offered. This model also offers the possibility of imprinting the date of recording. The model differs slightly in shape. It measures 11.8 x 6.5 x 4.7 cm and has a weight of 175 grams.
