The Nikon AF220 is a 35mm camera. It is the successor of the Nikon AF210. It belongs to the group of snapshot cameras and was introduced in 1995. In some markets you could buy it as Nikon Fun Touch 4.
The camera comes with a fixed focal length. The focal length is unchangeable and is 29 mm. The largest available aperture is f/4.5, the distance setting of the lens cannot be changed. The closest focusing distance of this lens is 130 cm.
The 35mm camera has a light meter for taking pictures. It has been designed for films with a sensitivity of ISO 100 to ISO 400. The film speed is read out via the DX code. The Nikon AF220 has an automatic exposure control and sets aperture and exposure time automatically.
The built-in flash provides sufficient light. At ISO 100 the range is 1.3 meters – 2.4 meters. There is a reduction for the occurrence of red eyes in the photos.
The dimensions of the 35mm camera are 11.8 x 6.5 x 4.2 cm. It weighs 165 grams. The power source of the camera are two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*). The batteries should be sufficient for about twenty rolls of film.
Nikon AF220 QD
There was also a model of the camera with the possibility of imprinting the date and time in the photo. This model weighs 10 grams more and measures 11.8 x 6.5 x 4.7 cm. Of course there was also the Fun Touch 4 QD.
Films for the Nikon AF220
For which film format is the Nikon AF220 designed? The camera exposes films in 35mm format. 35mm films are still easy to get and are developed by most photo labs. One possibility for b/w pictures is the AgfaPhoto APX 400*. A possible film for colour pictures is the Fujifilm Superia 400*.
The colour film is designed for development in the C-41 process. This development process is offered by most laboratories. The black and white film must be processed in a real black and white developer. Some labs offer development for this type of films. But you can also develop the film yourself at home.
The negatives of the Nikon AF220 are 24 mm x 36 mm. With this exposure range, a film (135-36) usually holds at least 36 photos. The film is automatically rewound by the 35mm camera.
