The Nikon F75 is a single lens reflex camera. It was built by Nikon from 2003 to 2006. It is the successor of the Nikon F65 and is aimed at beginners. It is one of the last films SLRs from the Japanese manufacturer. The housing was sold in a silver or black version.
The lenses of the 35mm camera can be exchanged. Therefore a Nikon F bayonet was used. At the end of the 1950s the Nikon F bayonet was introduced. Since then, it has been standard at Nikon and was not discontinued with the introduction of an autofocus like other manufacturers did.
Other manufacturers of compatible lenses are Sigma, Tokina, Tamron and Samyang. But not all lenses are compatible with the old film cameras. The lens is focused by autofocus.
The 35mm photo camera has a built-in light meter. This is designed for an ISO range from 25 to 5000. The film speed is read out via the DX code. If the film cartridge has no code, ISO 100 is set.
Exposure is measured through the lens (TTL) with the 35mm SLR. The Nikon F75 has several exposure programs. The shutter speed and aperture can be selected by the photographer.
The built-in flash provides sufficient light. With ISO 100 films it reaches up to 12 meters. An external flash can be connected via hot shoe. The camera comes with a thread for a tripod. A self-timer is also built in.
The dimensions of the 35 mm camera are 13.1 x 9.2 x 6.5 cm. It weighs 380 grams. The camera requires two CR2 batteries (eBay / Amazon*).
Films for the Nikon F75
The Nikon F75 is designed for 35mm film. 35mm films are still being produced and are developed without problems in most photo labs. Unfortunately, films in the infrared range cannot be used with the camera. Possible films for the Nikon F75 are the Kodak ColorPlus 200* and the AgfaPhoto APX 100*.
The development process for the colour film is the C-41 process. This development process is carried out by all photo labs that offer development of 35mm film.
The 35mm camera transports the films with a motor. When the new film is inserted, the complete film is transported onto a spool. After taking a picture, it rewinds the corresponding part back into the cartridge. This way, no pictures are lost if the back cover is opened accidentally.
The Nikon F75 is only available used. The prices for the camera vary depending on its condition. The value usually varies between 25 and 75 Euros.
Nikon U2 & Nikon N75
In Japan this model was sold under the name “Nikon U2”. For photographers in the USA, the functionally identical model was known as Nikon N75.
