Godox Introduces the Flexible Macro Twin Light MA2

In macro photography, lighting often makes the fine difference between a flat image and a sculptural close-up. Conventional flash units or rigid ring lights quickly cast distracting shadows at extremely short working distances or illuminate the scene with unnatural uniformity.

With the Flexible Macro Twin Light MA2, Godox presents a compact lighting system that fits directly on the camera's accessory shoe and is specifically tailored to the needs of close-up work.

The design relies on two flexible gooseneck arms, each with an LED unit at the end. The lights can be positioned independently in space, allowing separate light control for the main subject and background or targeted grazing light on fine structures.

Channels A and B can be controlled separately via the control unit at the base. Brightness can be adjusted continuously from one to one hundred percent, while color temperature can be adjusted in a range from 2800 to 6500 Kelvin. High color fidelity is ensured by the specified values with a color rendering index (CRI) of 96 and a TLCI of 97.

The integrated LEDs serve multiple purposes in practical use. They act as modeling lights for previewing shadow gradients during manual focusing, serve as continuous light for detail shots or video recordings, and function as subtle fill light.

In addition, the system is compatible with Godox wireless accessories and allows magnetic mounting of compact mini flashes such as the iM20, iM22, iT20, or iT22 directly on the arms. Godox states that the load capacity per gooseneck arm is designed for a maximum of 90 grams, which provides sufficient leeway for these small flash units.

For a softer light characteristic, the manufacturer includes magnetic diffuser attachments that can be quickly attached without screws. Power is supplied by a built-in battery that is said to provide up to 3.3 hours of runtime at full light output.

With an official entry price of around 79 US dollars, Godox delivers a thoughtful addition for all photographers who want to put mushrooms, insects, or delicate product shots in the right light with minimal equipment effort.
