Multiple exposures with the Nikon F2

How to make double and multiple exposures with the Nikon F2?

Intended multiple exposures can be made with the Nikon F2 as follows: After the first exposure, press the rewind button on the base plate and operate the film advance lever. This rewinds the shutter and tensions the mirror for the second exposure without further transporting the films.

Repeat the process as often as you want to make great multiple exposures with the Nikon F2. Exposures can be made with different shutter speeds. The frame counter remains unchanged during this process.

If the above procedure is followed, the film may move slightly when the film advance lever is wound up. To prevent this from happening, press and hold the rewind button while pressing the lever and taking the picture. Repeat this procedure as often as desired. If you wish, you can cover part of the lens when taking the picture and the other part when taking the next picture. This way you can easily create surreal images.

After the last frame, press the film lever again. Do not hold down the rewind button while doing so. The rewind button pops out and indicates that the film advance mechanism is activated again. Then cover the lens with a lens cap and press the shutter-release button to release the shutter. Now advance the film to the next frame. You have already captured a multiple exposure on film with the Nikon F2.

Finally, a general tip for creating multiple exposures. As the name already says, the film is exposed several times and therefore, more light falls on the film. In order to avoid now an overexposure of the image, one should adjust the exposure before taking the picture.

If you make a double exposure, twice as much light falls on the film. To avoid overexposure, only half of the light should be put on the film. So you expose an ISO 100 film like an ISO 200 films. If you take three pictures on one frame, you expose the film as if there was ISO 400 film in the camera.
