Manual for the Nikon EF100

How does the Nikon EF100 work?

The Nikon EF100 is a compact camera for the 35mm format. The model is from the 90s. Here you will find instructions for taking pictures with the camera. The manual is also valid for the Nikon Nice Touch 2, which is identical in its range of functions.

Insert batteries

Two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*) are required to operate the camera.

Open the battery cover on the bottom of the camera. To do so, slide the safety catch and lift the cover. Place the battery in the battery chamber with the correct positive and negative orientation and close it.

Insert film

The Nikon EF100 requires 35mm film (eBay / Amazon*). Films with a sensitivity of ISO 100, ISO 200 and ISO 400 can be used. A good photographic film for colour images is the Kodak Ultramax 400*.

To insert the film, you have to open the back cover by pushing down the latch on the left side. Now place the film cartridge with the flat side down in the film chamber. Now pull the beginning of the film onto the film loading indicator. The perforation of the film must be correctly positioned in the teeth of the film transport. Now the back wall can be closed.

Now remove the lens cover by sliding the slider on the front of the camera. Then press the shutter release button until the “1” is displayed in the frame counter. If the “1” is not displayed, you have to open the camera again and reposition the film.

Take a picture

Make sure that the lens cover is not active. Face your subject in the viewfinder and press the shutter release button halfway. If a red lamp lights up, there is not enough light to take the picture. If this is not the case, you can press the shutter button and take the picture.

If the red lamp flashes, the flash switch on the front must be set to flash. Now wait until the flash ready lamp on the back lights up. Now you can take the picture.

For sharp pictures you must keep at least 1.4 meters distance to your subject. For macro shooting, the flash macro switch on the front must be set to the flash. Wait until the flash ready lamp lights up, then fix your subject in the viewfinder. Now slide the flash macro switch on the flower and take the picture by pressing the shutter button.

Remove film

When the film is full, the camera automatically rewinds the film. Until the motor is completely silent and the frame counter displays “S”, the back cover must not be opened; otherwise all frames may be lost. However, if both of these conditions apply, you can open the back cover and take out the film. Then it can be taken to a photo lab for development.
