The Marinette Classic Film M104 is a black and white film in 35mm format with 36 exposures. It is characterized by its high sensitivity of ISO 400 and is therefore particularly suitable for shots in difficult lighting conditions or for fast movements. The film is sold by Les Ateliers de Marinette, a vintage shop in Lyon that specializes in analog photography.
Information and areas of application
The M104 is based on the Svema Aerial Type 17, a film material that was originally developed for aerial photography in Eastern Europe. Due to its high sharpness and sensitivity, it is suitable for a wide range of applications in 35mm photography. Photographers who prefer experimental shots with high contrast and grain in particular appreciate the properties of this film.
Formats and cameras
The Marinette Classic Film M104 is only available in 35mm format and is suitable for all analog cameras that support this format. A roll usually holds 36 images.
As the film does not have DX coding, the ISO setting must be set manually on modern cameras. The particularly thin film material can be a challenge on older cameras without automatic film threading.
Developing the film
The M104 can be processed with any commercially available black and white developer. Due to its special properties, experienced photographers recommend testing different developers and development times to achieve the desired result.
Digitizing the negatives
After development, the M104 negatives can be digitized as usual. Due to the high sharpness and fine grain, the negatives are particularly suitable for scanning with high-resolution scanners. Alternatively, the negatives can also be photographed to create digital copies.
Storing the film material
As with all analog films, the M104 should be stored in a cool, dry place to ensure its shelf life. Storage in a refrigerator is recommended, especially for long-term storage. Before use, the film should be brought to room temperature to avoid condensation.
