The Lucky GBR 400 Plus is a color negative film. One of the largest film manufacturers produced this film, China Lucky Film Corporation.

The GBR 400 Plus is a versatile color film for solid image capture. With a recommended ISO setting of 400, it offers optimal flexibility and excellent results in a variety of shooting situations. Whether outdoors or indoors, in daylight or artificial lighting, this film delivers consistent and vibrant color. Photographers can be confident that their images will always have good exposure with GBR 400 Plus, as most light meters easily detect ISO.

Using expired film

Finding a roll of color film that has not expired is proving difficult these days. However, the expiration date given by the manufacturer does not necessarily mean that the film can no longer be used. However, it is important to keep in mind that older film stock can lose sensitivity over time, whether due to aging or improper storage in a warm place.

If one decides to use expired color film, it is recommended that exposure settings be set to a lower ISO to avoid underexposing photos. In addition, one should keep in mind that expired film can cause changes in color tones, increased noise, and a decrease in brilliance in the photos. Nevertheless, expired film can create a special charm and artistic effects that are appreciated by some photographers. It can be exciting to experiment with such film and explore the unique results.

Development of the film

Once the Lucky GBR 400 Plus film is fully exposed, it is necessary to develop the film stock to obtain the final images. The common development process known as the C-41 process is offered by most labs. This process is standardized so that nearly identical results can be obtained regardless of the lab.

After the negatives are developed, it is possible to make prints using an enlarger. Alternatively, the images can be converted to digital formats using a scanner. Many developing laboratories also offer the option of directly obtaining prints in various sizes.

To further process the photos digitally, the film strips can be scanned and digitized. There are various devices for digitizing negatives from which to choose, depending on individual needs and budget. The digitized images can then be shared on social media, for example, or printed out in various formats.

Availability and alternatives

The Lucky GBR 400 Plus was available for the 35mm format. The film cartridge of the 35mm film was equipped with a DX code, which allowed some cameras to automatically adjust the film speed.

Manufacturers like Zorki, Rollei or Lomography offer suitable cameras for the 35mm format. Of course, there are other cameras that are suitable for use with 35mm film.

Unfortunately, the GBR 400 Plus is no longer in production, so fresh film stock is no longer available. However, there is alternative film stock in the 35mm range such as the Kodak Ultramax 400*.
