The Viltrox AF 75mm f/1.8 EVO is a prime lens from the Chinese manufacturer Viltrox and belongs to the EVO series. The lens is manufactured in China. It is aimed at photographers who are looking for a handy telephoto focal length with good aperture for their mirrorless APS-C camera without having to spend a fortune. It was introduced in the summer of 2026.
With its construction, the model fills a popular gap in the portrait segment. Instead of hanging on the camera like a heavy glass brick, it shows that a solid aperture and low overall weight can peacefully coexist in the same camera bag.
The focal length of 75 millimeters corresponds to an angle of view of about 112 millimeters in full-frame format on APS-C sensors. This places the lens in a very comfortable range between the well-known 85mm and 135mm classics.
This focal length provides a flattering optical compression that gives faces natural proportions. Combined with the large aperture, the main subject can be cleanly isolated from the background, allowing busy scenes to sink into soft blur and keeping the viewer's eye from being distracted.
Beyond classic portrait photography, this focal length is also suitable for close-up shots or street photography. The slight telephoto character allows you to keep a bit more distance from the action, which is especially practical when you don't want to stand right in front of the people you're photographing.
The aperture starts at a maximum opening of f/1.8 and offers reliable reserves in low ambient light. For shots with greater depth of field, the aperture can be stopped down to f/16. The desired aperture can be selected either via the camera or directly via the aperture ring on the lens.
Inside, eleven optical lenses work together, arranged in nine groups. Among them are low-dispersion lenses and high-refractive-index glass that reduce chromatic aberration and imaging errors to ensure clean sharpness across the entire image field.
The minimum distance to the subject is a close focusing limit of 74 centimeters. While this isn't enough for tiny insects, it does allow for frame-filling head portraits and capturing fine details without having to step back too far.

At a weight of just under 335 grams, the Viltrox AF 75mm f/1.8 EVO remains pleasantly light. On compact camera bodies, there is no annoying forward weight, making the gear comfortable and fatigue-free to hold even on longer photo trips.
On the front, a filter thread with a diameter of 58 millimeters is available. Since this is a widely used standard size, purchasing polarizing, ND, or protective filters remains manageable and is kind to your accessory budget.
To serve different camera systems, the manufacturer offers the lens for three mirrorless mounts. The model is available for the Fujifilm X mount, the Nikon Z mount, and the Sony E mount.
A quiet stepper motor ensures a fast autofocus that captures both static and moving subjects equally well. For precise manual focusing, a grippy focus ring is also included, and a built-in USB-C port on the mount allows for future firmware updates.
