The La Sardina – El Capitan is a 35mm camera model from Lomography. In July 2011, the edition was introduced by Lomography with the La Sardina – Fischers Fritze, La Sardina – Sea Pride and La Sardina – Marathon. The introductory price was €89.00. In the meantime, the El Capitan is no longer produced by Lomography.
This version of the La Sardina is in yellow-red design and as usual made of high quality plastic. On the lens cap of this Lomo there is an anchor.
The 35mm camera comes with a flash, Fritz the Blitz. It is powered by a somewhat unusual CR123A battery (eBay / Amazon*).
The La Sardina – El Capitan has a super wide angle with a focal length of 22 mm made of plastic. The MX switch allows for multiple exposures quite easily. Long exposures are possible with the Bulb mode. The camera also has a connection for a remote shutter release and for a tripod.
When shooting, make sure that the text “Only shoot if you can red me!” is visible. If this is not the case, it can lead to blank negatives and black images.
Films for the La Sardina – El Capitan
The La Sardina – El Capitan is a 35mm camera and requires 35mm film. Because of its prevalence, the 35mm format is still an important part of photography and some companies still produce films for this format. There is a wide range of prices here, from cheap to very expensive.
A good film choice is the Fujifilm Superia 400* for color images and the Ilford Delta 400* for black and white images. There are many other brands of film stock compatible with the camera for 35mm format. It is advisable to go for more sensitive film stock, as this will give you the most flexibility and still be able to take good pictures in lower light.
